LSTing: Leaves in soil?

Hey. I have been looking around for information on what to do with the leaves that are ender the plant in soil when beginning to LST without any luck. Can somebody here let me know what to do about them? I started LSTing relatively late, and my plant is quite thick with i think 4 node, 7 or 8 inches tall. (dont take my word for it, im in class) Anyways, Should i be cutting them off, tying them, putting something under them or just letting them sit in the soil until they find the light. And, will them being in the soil damage them. This is what i thought because of the nuts in the soil, but i figure the damage would be minimal.

Any help would be great, thanks.

if you can pull back a bit of the soil go for it. try not to damage the plant.

they will grow upwards eventually
