Lowryder #2, 18 days from seed, still tiny

Do you think it's okay? Seems like she/he is going slower than it suppose to.

I have about 4-5 at the kind of the same stage this one is in.

I'm growing in about 3 gallon pots. 3 in each, ( I reckon 50% will be males).

But at the moment I really don;t think it's using even 5% of the soil. It looks very small, as you can see in the pic.

I'm not giving it any fertilizer ( I bought a pre-fertilized soil, very light fert.)
I water 1-2 a week, only when it the soil at the top is dried, it gets loads of sunlight.
I actually started to see some heat stress signs, so I;m trying to give it 3-4 hours of direct sunlight max.

Anything you think I should do, or doing wrong?

when you find out i wanna know. i have 10 C99 and all of them are runts. i had this happen once before with one plant and it never came out of it. like little bonzi plants. minature. i think i am not going to give them any water this week. and keep them under a 4 cfls with out any outside sunlight. mine are not as green as yours.

They look a little small to me too. I would say it's a light issue, but you said they get plenty of light so I don't know. Here's a picture of my Easy Ryders (auto AK-47 x LR#2) at around the same age. This is even after some minor heat stress from when I went on vacation. They started showing sex after about 18-21 days.

Damn, your plants look amazing :-P

I guess mine are about a week behind schedule...
I guess I'll just sit and wait, unless some one can enlighten me.........

Thanks. This is the second time I'm growing autos so I got a little experience. They are a little different than other plants. I started them under 6500K daylight fluoros for the first 3 weeks. 2 went out to my guerrilla patch this weekend in 2 gallon buckets. The 3rd got a little bit more damaged when I went on vacation so I'm going to give it a few more days before going out. Since it's starting to flower, I swapped out the daylight fluoros for 2 26w 2700K CFLs.

I really think it is a light issue man. I can see one or two runts, but you said all 5 are like that? Also, if I may, in the future I recommend starting them in individual pots. Those plastic party cups work well. Then you can tranfer the keepers into larger pots after a few weeks. I actually like to use the little 9oz ones sometimes too.

To be honest... I always get some seeds which I can only describe as bum. I can do the exact same thing with those seeds (same light, same water) and they simply don't get that big. They don't die, they're just stunted, grow slow, and annoy the hell out of me. Your plants look like they're just kinda meh seeds, my first grow all my plants were like that.

Thank you sonar! I will try the plastic cup thing on the next bunch.

Do you think I need to give them more light?
I'm growing on my balcony with direct sun from 9-4, the weather here is very hot though.. 77 - 104 Fahrenheit.

Have you grown on your balcony before? Plants typically need at least 6-8 with 8-10 really where you want be at. Five seems... pretty low... does it have at least some sunlight at other times?

strange odds. 10 out of 10? 10 bad seeds in one 10 seed package? i was wondering that they had been x ray scanned in the mail. or some gamma ray burst came from a quasar from far away and hit the package as the post man was inserting it in the mail box. i will keep them just a little while longer and never buy from that seed company again. i am only going to buy from marijuana-seeds.nl from now on.
amazing 10 bad seeds. all at once. wow. wonder if this is a first?
btw sonar...them are nice short stocky green plants!

Well I'm no expert bro, but just looking at the plants, the stem looks really thin and a little stretched. That's often a sign of lack of light. In my limited experience, outdoor plants do better when you start them indoors under fluoros or CFL for a few weeks before taking them outside. Good luck.

Thanks! They are Easy Ryder from Joint Doctor. Bought them from the Attitude. I swapped out the 4200K fluoro tubes that came with the fixtures for some 6500K daylight and that has made a huge difference.

I'm afraid I don't have the room to grow them inside.
I'll do my best to give them around 8 hours of direct sun.

I will post pictures in a week.

update on my dilemma. they are 1 month old today including starting from seed. they have been above ground about 3 1/2 weeks. they are pale green. they have been fed with 1/8 solution of 24-5-10. but are still light green after 5 days since feed. i have not watered in a couple of days but they respond to light very well. (twisting and leaning to the light source). i will keep them a bit longer cause i do believe it was over watering and heat stress (they will probably be all males, but i need a male anyway, so i will keep the best male). these are C99 from Joey. i have a T5 4' 2 lamp but i have to go get more lights..found that one lamp was bad. light came from HTG, i did not get 10,000 hours from the light either, maybe that only means continous "on". i am going to continue to treat them as they are 2 weeks old. me thinks also, that since the have went outside a couple of hours a day, that heat has stunted them. as you can see in the pic that they have a dozen or so leaves on each plant.

It could be overwatering, but I think you might have a light issue too. They should be much bigger at a month. When you use T5's or any kind of fluoro tubes, you want them as close as possible to the plant. I'm talking like an inch or two at most. What are the temps like in your grow area? Do you have a thermometer? If you don't, I'd suggest getting one. They sell temp/humidity gauges at wal mart for like $8. Trust me, it will make life easier. I have a small oscillating fan I keep in my room blowing like half at the lights and half at the plants. BTW if you are in an attic or a garage where the ambient temp is already in the 90's, you are always going to have heat issues. Keep us posted.

That's light right there... see how the whole plant is focused upwards, how the leaves haven't grown out much but continue to pile on each other? Invest in some cheap ass CFL bulbs at 6500k and you'll be grand.

i have over 500 watt of t-5 and cfls.
what i was doing is i was giving them extra water cause for some reason i thought the heat was drying them out when i took them out side. when they came in the top of the soil(less) was always crusty. the heat in the area is been way up there, like 100, and with the heat index, well, it's been deathly. so i have had 2 problems. over watering and heat stress. this morning they have shown a lot of growth (compared to what has been going on) and are much more darker in color. all ten are coming out of their stress.
notice greener leaves in the not so good phone pic.
only a couple of hours in this heat has stunted them and then my over watering to compensate. double whammy!

all is not lost. they will not go outside till 12" tall, and then the weather should maybe i dunno be a bit cooler. my guerilla location also has shade during the day. i want them to flower outside this time, and i should have plenty of males cause of this stress.. but i did not want to throw the guys (and maybe a few girls too) away.. but was soon near doing so. but my plan was thrown out cause i wanted a male to go with one of my master kush girls that live outside. all is not lost.
thanks for you guys (and maybe girls) help in making the diagnosis.

have a good day if you want to.

btw. this heat is probably Sdavid's problem too since he was taking his out side also.

still am going back to my other seed company tho. as a matter of fact white widow max should be here before sunday.

I hope your plants will recover.
I've started to see some signs of flowering on one of my lowryders, and I think that the other one is a male. too soon to tell though.

I got another grow, of about 10 plants, well into week 3, but I have no idea which is strain they are.
Just planted a bunch of unknown seeds that a friend got me.

I got about 200 more of those, so if anyone will like what he sees I'd be happy to send :P

maybe you guys could tell, I will post pictures when they grow a little more.

Peace out,
Dave

P.S
This is what the LRs look like today. ( 2 days from the first photo i posted),......

when the leaves are like funnel looking upwards is good. all plants would do this if it wasn't for weight.
it was not a light issue, rather 2 different problems; over watering and heat stress.
problems solved.
