I am always on the lookout for simpler things when i grow Autos . I came upon a grow journal posted by @CptNemo as his Lowe's Soil mix and the results from it. I am a grower that has been using Hempy Style grows lately and have grown in FFOF / Light Warrior .

But Am really excited with this different choice for my indoor grows. And wanted to share how well this " Store Brand " is working.

I still grow with these soils and have been overall pleased but wanted to try something new.
Originally he used a 2-part mix 50/50 , but have modified it slightly. I added perlite and myco rich Light Warrior as an amendment.

This is also a reasonably priced mix ( around $11 bucks ) ... It has a more mulch like look and feel. It is also a dark rich soil mix. First thing i noticed from both is that seemed cooked ... As there was a pronounced feel of heat deep within bag. This also needs perlite. There is another version ( blue bag ) which is a Moisture Max version , but that is a quality that wouldn't be good for watering schedules.

Original mix : 50/50 mix of both in lower half or third of your container then topped remainder with the garden soil .

My Mix : 50/50 mix as listed but added 25-30% chunky perlite - for more drainage and aeration.
I chose a layered mix - first the bottom " super " soil mix with perlite then 1/2 cup Light Warrior with Myco. Then topped with final Garden Soil mix with a bit of perlite.

Containers : 3 gallon Smart Pots .... I chose these as an alternative to hard side pots because of their Air Pruning of root system and there better aeration ( oxygen ). I noticed that this is a very light feeling mix .. So i will have to wait til they get their " legs " before adding any heavy watering.

SEEDS :
Bomb seeds - ICE BOMB AUTO

The weed is an three way mix of Vanilla Kush, White Rhino and the infamous Bomb #1, and gets its name from the heavy coating of ice white THC crystals which form on the buds by harvest time.

I popped this strain last year and she was a beauty. So as an experiment this strain was chosen.

I have also popped a HUMBOLDT BLUE DREAM and Moxie Blue Coral.

Planted : Nov. 6

As you will see the soil used from lowe's is surprising in over all growth WITHOUT adding nutes. ONLY WATER so far. The embedded nutes are definitely doing the job.

image.jpgimage.jpg

My planned nutes were to be DYNAGRO BUT have not added any and decided to see how long this soil mix will last.

When using this soil with fabric grow bags .... The root system WILL punch thru the bottom. I never had that happen with FFOF. It tended to have a smaller root mass in a 3 gallon container when harvested.

I am 30 days in with the Ice Bomb and noticed a large mass of roots has pushed thru bottom of bag. Since i could not up pot without ripping roots out , i RE-POTTED into a larger plastic pot with a shallow bed of soil.

Root growth has been awesome since switching over to this medium.

The chewed leaves were from my fucking dog. She is a closet stoner and bit on some lower leaves. That little Bitch ....

The Ice Bomb has grown beautifully and looking awesome.

The other plants are doing just as well under , but are now under a quantum board panel running at 3000k . They are responding well to this new light and cant wait to see how they do. The Blue Dream has really started to push forward .. With the Blue Coral starting to Bush up.

This is pretty amazing because most store bought soil at Lowes or HD is pretty crappy. The Perlite must help. i also think that QB board is gonna kick some ass.

DEC. 25 - MERRY CHRISTMAS

Quantum Board grow - Mars Conversion panel

Its been 3 days since this swap out of VIPARSPECTRA to my QB panel.
These girls are really bushing up ... Actually all of the potted plants are growing much nicer since swap.

image.jpg

ICE BOMB : ( AUTOFLOWER )

The VIPARSPECTRA is this tent now .... ( i really like this panel , my girls REALLY like this panel too ). ! ....

Starting to setup their budsites ! ... This panel really surprised me since buying it last month. This was to replace that MARS panel that took a shit ... Then became the QB build. But , seriously this little panel rocks .... The G8's are also adding to mix too.

OMG! Dump that shit! I bought that staygreen garbage once when desperate for some soil. Its poorly composted, and full of bugs! It comes with its own supply of Thrips and fungus nats! Seriously and those time release nutes? eeeeeeeeee

Go to a greenhouse or farm store and get some good soil! I buy an organic mix sold locally for less than they sell staygreen for at lowes. Find something like that, keep away from Miracle Grow products and soils, the soils have the time release nutes also and some canna REALLY doesn't like them, reason, unknown.

Not so fast on blasting the miracle grow soil. When I first started I used MG organic garden soil and amended it with perlite, bone meal, guano, and other things. I used it outside in backfilled holes but it worked very good. I think its a good way for newbies to get started in organic growing. But I would stay away from their ferts.
