Lost in some timers land

I bought a oxy cloner and have not got a single root to show as of let. 1st time went 2 weeks and no roots just slime. As this was a used unit I took it apart and did a hot water and bleach treatment on everything. Day 6 on second run and no roots but water is getting slimy.
Water temp is 71 to 74 degrees spring water. If anyone has an idea please feel to chime in.
One more thing I have cloned all of these before in soil no problem. :wall:

Change out the water if its slimy. You got a proper air pump or a cheapy?

I would say if your growing goo there is something off.

Is pump running constantly? I run my aero cloner 80secs on 8min off. Not to mention, those are some little, itty bitty cuttings. They look like the trash I trim from my cuttings.

I can't figure out why people think they need some fancy and expensive contraption for clones. There has to be hundreds of cloning methods out there. Why do people think that the more money they throw at em the better they grow?

Yes pump runs constantly as per the company that builds the unit. As for the size I usually use soil and have cloned all size from sticks with a couple of leaves to 5 to 6 inch cuttings. So once again size doesn't matter. Just trying something new to see if it is worth my time.

I've never seen a cloner like that. How is that supposed to work?

Hey Zig Zag..

I use a 5 gallon bucket for a cloner and I use a water pump inside the bucket spraying water up against the lid of the bucket 24/7...I will post a pic..I don't use an air pump just a water pump..Anyway I have only had one clone die on me and I have been using it for years...

I've used plain tap water and 1/4 strength maxibloom in my cloners with 100% success. I do change the water every 3 days though as a preventative measure. Anymore I just use my dome/heatmat and rapid rooters. I spend enough time doing res maintenance and the rapid rooters are kinda set it and forget it for 7 days till roots.

Similar to a deep water culture Water to 1" from top a power head circulates the water and also draws oxygen in mix. I added a aquarium air pump for more oxygen. Seems real simple so I'm giving it a try.

Hey Nitro,
That's a cool setup what size pump is that? I have all but the pump right now so I might give it a try. Thanks for the info may your grow never stop.

Also I should have mentioned that I use a tiny DWC cloner. It's a little 4 site that I found on eBay for like 20 bucks shipped. Just has a small stone in it bubbling away. Took anywhere from 7 to 12 days to show roots. I used plain tap water and nute water with the same results. Still manages to be more of a pain in the ass than the rapid rooters though. I always go with the more hands off approach because I am a lazy shit.

Well guess I'm just to impatient roots popping out on some of these now. Smallest cutting has the most roots go figure.

I agree with snapsprovalone. If you're getting slime then you've got something rather wrong with the setup. Given that you're now getting roots, that's good, but there is still something wrong If you are getting slime from plain water.

Here are the four things you need to clone.LISTEN.It must be clean. You must have sterile water tap water is fine.(you can add 3 ml of 35% h2o2 per gallon to keep any problems from happening every third day)You must have a stable temp around 75 F.You MUST have a high humidity level on the cutting,(This is where i suspect your problem is.Throw a humidity dome on it and watch them take off)You must have a dim light over the top of them.So clean, temp, humidity and light. No matter how you clone. The more air the better in aero cloners so air stones are always a good thing.
If you clone in a tray and dome think moist on the cubes.Root riots rockwool what ever must be allowed to dry down some in order to maintain fresh water and air around the cuttings stems to get it to throw roots.

Why do people not understand what the word "must" means?

None of the things listed in your post are requirements, just highly advisable. I have happily cloned without any of the requirements you list in your post, as such, indicating that they are not requirements.

Many methods work but by saying stuff is a must is rediculous. I have lost 2 cuttings from thousands and I cut from the plant stick it in the cloner and leave it alone. No h2o2, no sterile environment, no airstone, no dome, no dedicated light, no rooting hormones. Cloner sits on concrete floor and temp is not monitored, humidity stays around 50%. So no matter how I clone its completely different from yours and 99.999% success rate. No musts to it.

One must. You must have a Marijuana plant to take clones. Lol otherwise all your other shit is useless

all from my experiences

my friend has that cloner, personally i run a diy aerocloner
I think you can run a flooming pump in there too, and it gives you something to do it with
smaller clones generally root quicker for me anyways, big ones take longer and for some reason lose a few leaves
I make sure and use sharp, sterile scissors for the cuts, and it works great. I could use a disposable scalpel, one day..
you are supposed to change the water once 2 or 3 days after putting clones in, because if any plant matter gets in the water slime forms. Changing it allows a rinse off of the stem too, and gives it new fresh water that shouldn't go bad

i keep water around 68, try to keep it below 71. 65 isn't too bad but that's where i try to keep it. It's easy though for me cause its a 14 gallon reservoir instead of 2 cups lol

also i'm pretty sure you just make sure they're low enough so the bubbles are popping and the mist from them is hitting the stems

I like my aerocloner though, but it's way bigger and i see the advantages to a simple cloner like this.

don't forget to clean that thing well. I use a nylon brush (toothbrush or toilet brush) to clean it with a little soap and bleachy water. I then rinse it very well and dry it, and store it for next use.
all stones and hoses and whatever are soaked in hot bleachy water and scrubbed off then rinsed as well
