Looking to get a license?

I have systemic lupus (SLE), and was looking into getting a medical marijuana license, but I don't know how to go about it. I've been prescribed pain medications before, but they've always been rough on my stomach and I've pretty much been a zombie on them. I don't like feeling absolutely wasted and incapacitated. I also don't like the possibiliy of becoming addicted to them. Taking a hit off of a bowl, however, helped my joints feel better without making me nauseous or out of it. I wouldn't go out and drive or anything, but I could get housework done and actually enjoy my day instead of being bed-bound.

I looked at the site to download the form for my physician to fill out, but I don't know how to approach him about it. I'm afraid that he'll look at me as some sort of burn-out looking for a legal hook-up. I also don't know if I approach him, or my rheumatologist. And even still, I have the same issue. Will he look at me as some sort of burn-out? I have a 4 month old, too. I would never smoke around him or smoke without my husband home so one of us would be sober and 100% capable of caring for him (I could still take care of him, but I'm a smidge paranoid about that kind of stuff). Would my doctor call CPS, or consider me an unfit parent?

Sorry for all of the questions. I'm just not quite sure how to go about any of it.

hey, im no expert but from what i have read in recent mths id be very surprised if there is any way that u can get a licence in the uk. To the best of my limited knowledge on this topic i am under the impression that the best u can get is a letter of refusal (to grow) in the uk from the government. After receiving this letter the only use of it to uyourself is that it can be used as a slight form of defence in court should u be caught. The main angle of defence being that u tried every legal avenue to get sorted before u resorted to the illegal mean.
i pray to god i am behind the times and wrong, so please anyone with more up to date info please post. in the mean time cravingsolace could u tell me what site u looked at and some info that was on the form please. i would be very keen to check it out..cheers.

respect an peace, then we'll all be high of the good karma going about....:weed:

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. I figured the UK would be more progressive than the US for some reason. Unfortunately, you posted in the Arizona forum. I'm not sure what the laws are right now where you live. Maybe someone else would know?

Do you have medical records from the sometime within the last year indicating systemic lupus and the discomfort it causes you? I think you can get the ball rolling with just those and a visit to a MMJ clinic anywhere in the state.

This is from the AZ Dept. of Health Services department showing what conditions they will approve for:

3. "Debilitating medical condition" means one or more of the following:
(a) Cancer, glaucoma, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, crohn's disease, agitation of alzheimer's disease or the treatment of these conditions.
(b) A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces one or more of the following: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe and chronic pain; severe nausea; seizures, including those characteristic of epilepsy; or severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristic of multiple sclerosis.
(c) Any other medical condition or its treatment added by the department pursuant to section 36-2801.01.

Here's the Departments website with all the info you should need. www.azdhs.gov/medicalmarijuana/

Hope this helps and good luck finding the means to take care of yourself.

Now I'm completely lost. Is OP in the UK or Arizona?

If OP is in Arizona, there are a number of clinics that should be able to help. Bring your medical records (request copies from your doctors), or clinics should be able to get them independently. The primary reason is to establish that, within the past year, you have been seen by a qualified physician for any one of a number of qualifying conditions. In the case of lupus, it would fall under "A chronic or debilitating disease, medical condition or the treatment that causes... Severe and chronic pain." It's sort of a catch-all.

If you go to your doc, there's a good chance they'll say no- they don't prescribe that sort of thing, or they are afraid they'll lose their license. Plus, they probably won't do the paperwork or the photo (the image resolution has to be just so, and the size has to be just right), so that's up to you. Most clinics- given the relevant medical paperwork- will give you the OK, and- to the best of my knowledge- none charge for the service unless you qualify. Most will be happy to do the paperwork, photo, etc. for you, but (of course) the $150 state fee is up to you, as is the service fee at the clinic. I think these guys charge $99, which is pretty good. A few around town may charge $75, and probably some less than that if you shop around. Check ads in Phoenix New Times, or maybe someone here can chime in.

Also note that while smoking is one route for cannabinoid ingestion, baked goods and tinctures may be more socially acceptable if you have a kid around the house. Strains that are relatively high in CBD and low in THC (including hemp oil that is really made from hemp) may have improved medical benefits with reduced psychoactive effects.

I'm from AZ. I see my rheumatologist every 3 months and my regular physician only if I need to. So I would need to request records from my rheumy to show that I'm being seen. I also see a neurologist every 3 months for epilepsy, but that's in remission. I haven't had a seizure in 7 years (thank God). I'll look into the clinic that's near me and see what I can do. I'd definitely love to try a strain that has little to no psychoactive effects. Smoking something stronger if I were alone and could relax more would be nice, but with a baby around I want to be as alert as I possible, even if my husband is home to help out. I've already spoken to him about getting a license and he told me to go right ahead, so it's nice to have his support and reassurance that this wouldn't make me a terrible parent.

Thank you so much for the help with this. I really do appreciate it. :)
