Looking to get a led grow light. Have some questions. Rep to all!!!!

Hey guys! I am new to the LED world and I am looking to make the change. I have already done a decent amount of research on them and I understand how they use more light that is efficient to the plant. While HIDs push out all their lumens and using all those watts. Also I know that the lights are alot cooler running. I was wondering if you could compare one 240w Blackstar to maybe 8 cfls that are close together. Or would it be even cooler than that? I understand that they dont get the best penetration. That is not my concern tho because I am going to be doing a one plant scrog with a wide canopy. Can I use these LEDs during vegetative growth? My cabinet stands about 4' tall and about 3' wide. I was wondering what the recommended distance in between plant and light w/ a 240w Blackstar. If I could make my box run cooler by a few degrees while dropping my electric bill and giving my plant more of the light that it loves why would I not do it??? I think the science is there with all these new higher watt diodes and all. If any of you experienced LED growers read this and could answer some of these questions that would be great!!!! Are the buds any better quality with the better spectrums!?!?!? Thank you. STAY HIGH!!!:leaf::leaf::leaf:

Check the journal in my signature line, I'm running two 180W Pro Grows from hydroponics hut and a 90w UFO. Do some research on blackstar before you buy. People on this site have had good results but know that the 240w unit only pulls about 130w of actual power and it is most definitely not made in the USA just shipped from the USA. I found the pro grow series to be the best bet for me. That said I haven't had a blackstar, just re-iterating what others who have taken them apart and tested them on wattage meters have told me. Most LED lights advertise a specific wattage, what the leds could potentially pul if driven to full power. They aren't because this would fry the unit. For reference the 180s in my journal pull 130 watts of actual power, the same as the blackstar 240. I've been satisfied with my results so far.

Hey man thanks for chiming in. Checked out your journal looks good. Rep+. Any ways was wondering if you could answer a few things. How close can you get those 180w to your plant with out harming them? Does the unit get hot to the touch while running and does it heat the air around it? I have proper ventilation in my cab. But I have to make it quiter and am going to be adding carbon filter with a quieter exhaust. Thanks again.

Happy to help. I was actually able to remove the exhaust system I used with my old HPS system. Each unit (2 180s and a 90 ufo) has three cooling fans running while the lights are on that circulate the air throughout the closet, soon to be tent. So I basically have 9 pc fans running all the time. You can get them as close as you want. There is almost no thermal output. Never hot to the touch, way cooler than a cfl. Mine are about 7-10 inches above the canopy as this allows for the best coverage footprint.

These are the things that really got me looking into led. I want to be able to put that light right down on top of them. I love having very tight bode spacing. it think that the 240w should do great for just a 1 plant scrog. She will prolly explode with growth day by day. Tha ks again man

no doubt a 240 blackstar will kick much ass on one plant, you probably won't even have to fuck with the cfls. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of what others have said regarding their actual wattage, ect. Best of luck man.

Yeah I am aware of what they say. Wattage is really not to much of a concern to me. As long ad she loves the light and stays cool that is all that matters to me. Going to be purchasing one probably this wwekend
