Looking to buy a 300w LED panel, any help?

Hi, im on a fairly tight budget, and am looking at this panel here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LED-300W-30...912?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b417fe88

I figured due to the relatively low downward heat, and the relative strength of this it should fill my cupboard nicely(bout four foot long two feet wide, bout 6 foot high)

Ive got a 1000w HPS system, but due to the heat output of it, and the heat of where im living, normally 30 celsius plus, i want an led system to hopefully keep me from going too full on with my cooling(i will be running an 8' inline exhaust fan into a charcoal filter etc and some small fans to move the air around, plus a passive intake).

What im curious about is with this panel, it says its led's are adjustable by the guy that sells them, what colours and ratios would you guys reccomend?
Im looking for something that will do the full veg and bloom cycle nicely, and im afraid im not too good with the mathematics or have a great understanding of the light waves i should have set up in it.

And i thought i should mention i plan on using two 130w cfls in either 2700k or 6400k respective of the stage my plants are in, on the sides of the cupboard to promote growth underneath the canopy, but ive also considered a couple of cheap 24w led panels on either side, any ideas?

Any suggestions to the way the panel should be set up, the effectiveness of the cfls or anything would be greatly appreciated my friends

Thank you

Having switched from LEDs to HO T 5, I would not go back until/unless recent research gets incorporated. Take a look at a Quantum Bad Boy. Not sure their 8 bulb fixture wil fit, but they have a 5 bulb which is ~ 200 watts. hth

Don't buy that panel, I'm sorry if you already did. There is no mention of a warranty! These lights are supposed to last 50,000 hours. If a company won't stand behind their product for at least three years don't give them your business. I personally use leds from HydroponicsHut.com, and GLH. I do own a couple of shitty ufos from ebay, they pale in comparison to a well made light in terms of intensity and proper spectrum. I can in good conscience recommend hydro hut or GLH, but from my research can say you'll probably get good results with Stealth, Advance, or Pro-Source as well. I currently have a 690w led journal (see my signature line), feel free to check it. Having used them I would recommend using several smaller wattage panels (180-260ish range) as this ultimately provides for a larger footprint and a more modular set up allowing you to taylor the lights to each plants hight and needs.

For a better explanation of why I believe this set up works better, see the pictures in my journal.

Thanks for the advice :)
Thankfully i decided to do some research before i bought into one haha

So that one i saw on ebay is definitely out lol. What about blackstars hoss12781, ive heard good about them, whats ur opinion of them?
And im looking to buy through gotham hydroponics, since their price seems fair and they ship internationally, which is good since where im living doesnt have the best range of high performance Led's... Have you heard good or bad things about them as a company?
And one last question, can i use a led light thats tuned to flowering throughout the entire cycle as i could with, say a HPS? Or would i need to invest later in another led light

Sorry for the stupid questions, it just seems in my current situation a led system would be perfect, and i have very limited knowledge of leds

And petflora, i had a quick look at those lights you suggested and im not sure id be able to move the light up and down properly in my cupboard... Its just an old cupboard i have modified lol, i think if i tried to "modify" it any more to fit something like that itd fall apart haha, though i apreciate the input :)

You can use a "flowering" model all the way through. I would personally re-think blackstar unless money is a real issue. They only offer a one year warranty and from my research use some questionable business practices. That being said they do work, I've seen good journals. I consider them to be the walmart of leds. For a little more upfront cash you can have a unit under warranty for three years. Hydro Huts lights also have a switchable spectrum feature allowing you to use only veg, only flower, or full illumination which has worked well for my garden. They will also ship internationally and have universal input for Euro plugs.

I use chains to move my leds up and down, its pretty easy (way easier than moving a 400w air cooled hps around the closet).

Read this before you buy a blackstar

https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/432283-blackstar-240w-led-dissected-upgraded.html

I seriously did some exhaustive research before I purchased my lights. I can only recommend what I bought from personal use but as I said above the other companies I listed besides Hydro Hut and GLH (Stealth, Advance, and Pro-Source) were all on my list of lights I would buy. What you'll want out of an led light ....

1.) 3w chipsets (or more) made from Orsam, CREE, Bridgelux, or Epistar diodes (make sure the company really uses them and hasn't just decided to say they do - there are plenty of liars out there).
2.) Warranty, at least two years preferably 3 or more.
3.) Spectrum, at least 5 different wavelengths if not more. The pro grows use 7 different spectrums, the GLH uses 12 different spectrums.
4.) Customer Service, can you call and get a live person on the other end? If not that's scary.
5.) Proven results, look for grow journals featuring the light you are considering. If you can't find at least three quality journals on the more popular grow forums then that would also scare me away.

Best of luck with your purchase. They do work well ... if you get the right ones.

I apologize @hoss, i just researched the pro grow lights you recommended and i can understand why!
Ill definitely do some more research into these before i ask more stupid questions :)
Thanks for the input
Ill definitely just fork out for one of those

happy to help evil, I just get pissed when a lot of people on this and other sites shit on leds saying they don't work when in 90% of these cases these folks have never tried them or used crappy brands. Fault also lies with a lot of the cheap-o manufacterers of leds that give this tech a bad name by making outrageous claims like a 90w ufo will replace a 400w hps (those people should be cock smacked). A lot of less than reputable companies also bullshit about the coverage area of their lights. Leds are very directional. Most 100-200w units have a core coverage area of 3ft by 3ft. Some a bit more, some a bit less.

I had nearly dismissed leds initially for my purpose and was going to go cfls due to the bad publicity they get. But after researching it a bit, and especially looking at the results some people have had (read your journal, very nice btw :) ) it seems to be a great alternative to people in my position where as little heat as possible is critical.

Thanks for the compliment evil, I worked and researched hard to find suitable replacements for my old HID/CFL set up. One thing I neglected to mention earlier - when shopping around ask if the advertised wattage on the panel/ufo in question is the total chip capacity or the total output wattage, there is a big difference! The diodes on led lights are not driven to their full capacity as they would fry out quickly. The use of step down transformers is, in part, what guarentees the longevity of these lights. The diodes on a typical 3w chipset panel, on average, are driven to about 2.1w of actual output. You can see how this makes a big difference when you add everything up. If a company is advertising, for argument's sake, the 300w panel you saw listed on ebay - that light uses 288 1w diodes. If they are driven to full capacity you have a 288w light and 12w running the cooling fans - this would cause the light to burn out super quick. While I don't know the exact specs I would assume these diodes are only driven to about .7w each meaning in terms of output its really only about a 200w light - pretty fuckin sneaky 'a!

Just make sure to ask. Reputable companies will let you know. For instance the Pro Grow 180s I have are actaully 130w lights in terms of output - this is listed clearly on the website. So again we have a 180w chipset driven to 130w of output which ensures a long life. You won't find this type of information on blackstar's site. GLH is one of the few companies that lists actual output wattage. To illustrate the 100w GLH UFO I own uses 45 3w diodes driven to about 2.1w of output.

Leds are a great alternative when heat is an issue. They're perfect for the residential hobby growers like us. I believe as this technology continues to evolve and scammers are outted for their douchebaggery we will see this tech replace HPS/CMH/MH/CFL and anything else as the gold standard for commercial and residential growers.

Have you seen or heard of hydro grow? I bought one a year at the beginning of summer and am waiting to use it still. My cab in the my garage and it is a bit hot this year. Just wonder if you had an opinion?
http://www.hydrogrowled.com/LED-Grow-Lights-W42.aspx

I am also looking at the Hydro Heart system.
http://www.sunlightsheds.com/HYDROHEART%20SALES%20NEW/Presentation_Files/index.html

Would you suggest a different hydro system for a small cab set up. Max three plants for now. I will be growing the system in a lager cab later on.

Here is everything you need to know about Cammie/Scott and Hydro Grow LED ...

During the past year an individual calling herself “LED Girl” has made wild claims about her products that those of us with expertise in lighting recognize as complete bullshit. She aggressively demeans all who question her and she regularly disparages competitors. Whether “LED Girl” is ignorant of lighting and/or whether “LED Girl” is intentionally fraudulent has been debated at length. New evidence demonstrates a long history of both ignorance and fraud.

The products that she markets are easily imported from China and represent no improvement over products readily available from hundreds of other LED importers. The only difference is the aggressive marketing, lies, and arrogance.

Research reveals that the person calling herself “LED Girl” has a long history of advertising on internet forums and trolling, arguing, and fighting with forum members until she is banned from the website.

Research reveals that the person calling herself “LED Girl” has a history of setting up internet businesses with slick-looking websites, representing herself as the figurehead of a large business with employees, research and development capabilities, and extensive proprietary knowledge; but she actually works out of rented apartments and houses, has no employees, hides behind answer machines, disappears with customers’ money, and utilizes an endless supply of lies to avoid taking responsibility.

Research reveals that “LED Girl” actually has a long history of fraud and theft.

Research reveals that “LED Girl” is actually a 25 year old individual who has been involved in at least two other businesses that have engaged in fraud. Since his last scam was exposed, this individual has moved out of state (leaving two children behind), changed his name, changed his gender, and started another front, Hydro-Gro, LLC.

“heres my story...

“I ordered a RB25 front clip from cameron at night7racing. He is a really nice young guy starting a business so i decide to give him a chance. I pay 3750 bucks in full by bank transfer.. That was over 3 months ago, when he said it would take 4-6 weeks. When I called him about 4 weeks ago he told me that they made a mistake and sent me a RB20 instead so they had to recall the clip and it would take about 2 more weeks to get the RB25 that I ordered to me.. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. For the past 2 weeks Ive been trying to contact this guy again, but he wont answer his phone, emails, or if he ever comes on AIM and i message him, he signs off.. Ive been waiting so damn long I want my money back and Im ordering from someone else.. What can I do to get my money back?

“Cameron if you read this, gimme a call and we can straighten things out.”

I too have purchased a clip from Cameron and he gave my the same BS story that an RB20 clip was sent to me as well. Now Cameron can't be contacted at all. I hope it's because he is in jail.

In short he riped alot of people off for a lot of money.

Notorious-Sky:
Well well well - so far in the last couple of days after registering with NICO I have gotten quite a bit of information. Now this name "Cameron" comes up in the wash.

Dont mean to open any old wounds, but I have had the unsavory experience of dealing with this ******* as well. If anyone has any information about how or where he can be contacted, I have an attorney just waiting to get his teeth into him. Mind you it's not about the money, I want this SOB put behind bars as theives like him deserve.

My R33 was obtained through Cameron, and while I did get a car, practically everything else he told me was a lie not to mention paying for things I have yet to receive, like my legalization done by him.

I have contacted the Texas Attorney General, and needless to say since I live in Texas, they are interested in his "business practices". I was very nieve when I bought this car several years ago, I have learned a lot since then. I have no one to blame for my experience except myself but now I want to do my part to ensure that this scumbag doesnt do this to anyone else. I will spend whatever it takes to see this fool go down, make no mistake about that!

Peace
Todster

The guy on the cell phone is J or R and there must be a third one. These guys are probaly 18-21 years old. I have Camerons partents # and I used ot have his # where he worked. I recently recieved an e-mail from a Washington detective. They have opened a case concerning RJC Trading/JDM Liquidators. He is encouraging anyone who has been ripped off by this guy to come forward. Here's the e-mail I recieved.

I am Detective K. T. Ryan with the Anacortes Police Department in Washington State. I am currently investigating a case of EBAY fraud. My investigation shows that you bid on products listed by artifact19 or gargage_jdm. At one point in time this business was operating within the city limits of Anacortes Washington. At this point I now have approximately 10 victims as well as other victims in other nearby jurisdictions. I am attempting to locate as many victims as possible prior to completing my case.

I am aware that the people involved have used multiple Ebay user names. People who have had contact with me say that they have had email, personal and telephone contact with the following people: Dustin (Blouin), Rob(Carratello), Jose(Gonzalez or Gutierrez(he lives with Rob), Thomas (Vlahovich), Matt (Vollans). They have done business as D Speed, JDM Wholesalers, JDM Engines, RJC Trading, TWV Trading, just to name a few.

If you sent them money and received nothing, or received something (but not what you won on ebay) I would like to hear from you. If you have had correspondence with others who have also been taken advantage of I would like to hear from them as well. I can not guarantee that I can get your money back for you, but I would like to prevent others from also becoming victims. Even though the garage_jdm user name was shut down they have continued to sell on ebay under other names.

Cameron Wieldraayer / NightXCZ77 / nannyw2 is back (again)

I just won this eBay auction for a Skyline R32 GTR:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK:MEWN:IT

Turns out the seller is Cameron Wieldraayer. I refused to buy it since the car is illegal. Now he's threatening to sue me for breaking our "legally binding" ebay contract that according to him I "signed".

I hope he does sue, because either
a) he'll make an ass of himself for trying to enforce a contract to buy an illegal car.
b) he'll when and set a president that the cars he sells are legal.

Sounds win-win to me.

Just thought I'd warn any future buyers to beware the eBay seller nannyw2

I've heard countless horror stories about night7...they're supposedly "reformed" now and don't rip people off "anymore." I'd never give them my money. Sean Morris owned the hell outta Cam on the AF Skyline forums, he proved what he was doing with importing Skylines is totally illegal. I wouldn't trust him.

Man I love this quote from Mr.Wieldraayer in the NICO forums.

"And Chris - you can't sue someone with no money to give you.....as I said, wait your turn, when I have the money, you'll be getting it no doubt. If I get sued without having any money, it only costs $200 to declare bankruptcy...which is something I really don't want to do...and you don't want it either because then no one gets a dime back. "

I feel bad for these people but really it is your own fault if you do not check into the laws yourself..

Forums that censor people for that type of stuff fucking suck, period. Not to pick on NICO but I thought the admins there would have learned their lesson after they let that jagoff from Night 7 Racing trample over people. I also remember when one of their own mods scammed people and the admins there let that shit drag on as well.

What does Cammie Mckenzie (aka Cameron Scott Wieldraayer, aka NightXCZ77) have to say about being exposed as a FRAUD?

NightXCZ77:
Fact is, people have a right to know FACTS about other companies.

I have no opinion on the hydro set up. While I use new school led lighting I'm old school soil all the way.

Sorry you purchased a light from his/her company. When I came across this information during my research it was enough to scare me away from giving my business to Cammie. I also find it mildly amusing that a transgender led light owner named her lights the penetrators when his/her penetrator is probably gone now.

I'm a bit confused here. You say you are on a tight budget, yet you are pursuing a technology that has extraordinarily high start up costs.

I don't think LED and tight budget should ever be used together.

He's right. Unless you're prepped to drop some coin you're probably going to wind up with shitty panels. For reference I believe my set up is pretty dailed in, I may actually have more power than is necessary for four plants but I'm running a total of approx 690w of actual led output. Cost me about a grand.

evilmonkey148: don't mean to jack your thread! If you would like me to move to a new thread I will.

hoss12781: You have a crap load of information here! Thanks for sharing all the info on what you have found. I thought I searched it out pretty well... but I guess I didn't! it sounds like I am lucky to have gotten a light at all form the LED girl! I will be looking at the other LED manufactures you have mentioned for my next purchase. I would like to go with hydro or automated system if at all possible. I am not always in town and need something that can be left on its own for a few days at a time.

Bonzi Lighthouse: Not sure I said I was on a budget maybe you are talking about evil. I don't want to over spend on stuff if i can help it. However I do want a system that will be able to be run with low heat and in a small cab setup. So my budget and setup are what they have to be for now. I can't have it in the open and I don't need a farm either. This is just personal use and for fun. I am not in a hurry just want to get quality equipment to start.

Thanks for everyone's advice this is a good thread and forum! I will keep looking and see what best fits my needs and space.

nice picture... I guess. Are you the new LED Girl profile? LOL!!! Sorry you kind of fell into that one! So to be serious now... Hoss also states in another thread he didn't like blackstar either. So you made two bad purchases! Ouch! Really if it works for you then more power to ya! This is all subject to personal opinion and what is proven over time in the forum and in independent test. At least that is what i have taken from it all.

Have you had a lot of success with either? If you have had success can you post what it was? Maybe some pics of the whole process or of the end results? Not sure the brightness has much to do with the LED technology. I could be wrong... looks like I was before! But I have seen it is more about the spectrum not much else.

GLH are actually pretty solid lights Pottx, don't be confused - I'm quite sure "Cammie" or whatever she prefers to go by named his/her company Hydro Grow LED (GLH vs HGL) to confuse people looking for GLH and leach business. Pretty fuckin shady. You're right about the blackstars though, I consider them to be the walmart of leds. They work but are low powered for the advertised wattage and don't carry a decent warranty for the price point.
