Today I just bought three 23watt cfl's each spitting out 6500k and 1640 lumens. Then I purchased a small circular metal fixture with about the perimeter of a foot. I also bought 10 feet of lamp cord, and a timer. All of this came up to $60 here in Canada.
Each the three parts of the fixture where a bulb can screw into there is a hot and a neutral wire totaling three neutrals and three hot's.
Can I just cap the three hot's to one half of the lamp cord, and cap the other three neutrals to the other half of the lamp cord? After that can I just bend the other side of the lamp cord clockwise and screw them down onto the male end of a socket which would be plugged into a timer, which would be plugged into the wall socket?
I'm planning on having two plants with this light setup during the vegetative growth cycle at 20/4 until it is the size I would like, at which time I will add two more 42 watt cfl's and change to a 12/12 lighting schedule. Is this okay? Does it matter how big the grow space is? If the plants are just on the ground and if I keep a constant one inch above them will it be fine?
I don't want to plug in the fixture until I am sure it will not cause a fire, and is wired correctly for I am just a NINETEEN year old kid with basic electricity skills.
If you could answer those questions it would be an amazing help, Thanks !
