I've found plants over the years that are better than the clones floating around here in Cali from old bagseed.
You can't say these plants aren't old school... Looking for the dead rotten skunk smell/taste that I remember the buds they came from(along with the headsmacking/couchlocking stone)
I'm hoping for atleast 4-5 females which will be lucky if I get that many!

Most people don't have bagseed nowadays since the mmj started. Unless you buy Mexican but I don't keep/grow Mexican Bagseed.
I kept these s33ds because of the buds they came from which kinda has me excited for selection!
I've got ~30 s33d left out of those OldSch. buds and after I cull all the males with no trichome/smell> I'll germ. the rest.
Not only looking for the best Female but also the best mate for her. Clones Clones Clones!@!

It's fun living in Cali where I don't need to keep clones of all my strains because every1 else has them too.
Trying to bring back old genes + maybe create something fresh

I don't grow mexican either K-nug, but I have gotten my hands on subcools JTR from outdoor Cali growers that had some mate. There are alot of outdoor guys around here that it happened to as well...one of the strains I got I called ICU and a cali grower that was here during a convention said it was the best he's had since he's been here on the east coast...

I have about 5lbs of seeds that i've saved over the years,Lol.

Ace Seedss Mazar i Sharifi. The seeds are sent directly from Afghanistan to Ace Seedss. Ask them - they will tell you. The stuff kicks ass! Check the reviews on Leafly. I got 10 regular seeds for $33.00 from SOS. Popped one - female. The stuff kicks ass!!!!!!

LOL, right...point is, I didn't need to buy weed and then fork over $100-150.00 for seeds. They came "free" with the weed. Now saying that, I have bought seed from seedbanks...White widow(the knock-off) AI, AK-47,Snow white, White rhino, Northern lights, Hash plant and grew them right beside bagseed and there wasn't a whole lot of difference. But hey, waste your money if it works for you.

My best gurl is from a lonely seed found in a bag.(have beans from at least 10 other well knowns) Getting ready to make another pheno hunt run, Bodhi is on my list and thinking HSO gear? Might look into Ace seed's if they do in fact come from the valley.

Just use bagseed, filter through them and clone the shit out of the one you like best...I've bought from seedbanks and grew out bagseed and found there's not a whole lot of difference...except price...my bagseed was just as good as bought en ones, its all in how you grow them.
Haven't seen bag seedz in like 20 years.... but I'll keep that in mind. :eyesmoke:

I get your point, I just disagree with most of it. Spending 70 bucks, which is the most I have paid yet, on a pack of 10 reg. seeds is far from "wasting" my money when the Harvest from those seeds are worth thousands. I don't have anything against bagseed, use to grow some outside years ago of some NL. But honestly I couldn't find a seed in any bag that I would get even if I wanted to. Sure I could breed my own and get some but that to me is not bagseed. Not to mention, I like to know the genetics and whether the strain is Indica, Sativa, or a hybrid and that is not a guarantee from most bagseed. I have patients who prefer Indica while I'm more of a Sativa guy so it's nice to know which is which. Especially when I make my oil, which should be with a strain with high CBN & CBD percentages, which is a crapshoot with most bagseed. Sure, if I could get my hands on bagseed from genetics I wanted and had confidence the person I got them from isn't lying about what they are, I would have no problem growing them. But again, I don't buy weed, I grow it, and haven't seen seeds in a bud in a year or two.

I think this really depends on what you're comparing.

If you're pulling your bagseeds out of bags of premium stuff, they very well might be better than many commercial ceeds. If you happen to have a bag of kick-ass weed that you love, and it has ceeds in there, go for it.

But there are a few problems here, not the least of which is that it can be really tough to find viable ceeds in high-end commercial weed. Even if you do find such ceeds, you don't know what the plants will look like until you grow them, nor how long they take to finish (or even if they WILL finish). Bagseeds may be the result of hermie-pollination, and may have hermie-prone genetics, growing into hermie prone plants. . . .that's another risk. Bagseeds are usually "bastards" that may end up different than the plant in the bag they came out of.

Another problem in this comparison, is that a lot of the strains you mention (eg White Widow, White Rhino, Northern lights) are likely watered down versions of the famous originals. I've grown at least one version of so-called "White Widow" that was just terrible. . .no frost, no taste, no potency. I've grown ceed out of schwagg that was actually quite a bit better that that in EVERY way (yield, flavor, and potency). I've also seen some pretty sad excuses for "Northern lights" too.

But of course, I've also grown commercial strains that completely blow away the schwagg-ceed in terms of flavor, potency, etc.

One big advantage of using actual commercial ceeds is just that you'll have a much better idea what to expect in terms of plant growth, yield, and flowering time than some random bagseed.

The viability from bagseed differs greatly from the bag they came from>I wouldn't save s33ds from a bag that was supposed to be sensi(usual hermi. s33d).

I haven't had a bag in over 10 years that I would keep s33ds out of> which is why I'm sprouting most of the old ones I have to pick through the genes for what I remembered(not just females)

One thing about a s33d is that you won't know whats in their genes until you try to germ. them(bad or good)
What are the chances of some1 running only clones from dispensary finding something no one else has ever had? 0%

Funny everyone's reason for not wanting to grow out a bag seed is hermie's lol every company i have tried has had hermie's Especially my greenhouse strains.I just dropped another 200 on the tude's b-day bash hoping for something but still running my lonely bagseed gurl that's never hermied on me or the 4 other people i have shared her with.but peace with the mis-conceptions and myth's :fire:
