No, it would just last longer, in theory. If the filter rating matches the fan, it should completely scrub the air. You would still be pulling 190 cfm through and scrubbing that with either.

Cheaper than others? You must have the connections, a quick check on the net shows they are more expensive than most others.

Just a pre filter that comes with the 400 cfm phresh filter. It doesnt give specs but is only 8 bucks more.

there are filters for your grow box air intake hole which clean dust before it enters your grow room, and there are filters that you wrap around your filter itself to keep dust and other contaminants from reducing the life of your filter (this is the filter I think your asking about). I do not believe it does anything for the odor though. I am learning so don't take this as gospel.

Woo! Just received my 400 CFM Phresh filter today! Excited to install it in my grow box. One question though... How do you mount it? It didn't come with any instructions or mounting bracket.

I use rope ratchets and hang from the support bars in my tent.

Also, don't forget to run your fan connected to your filter for a bit before installing everything to blow out the loose carbon dust.

I see. Is the white fabric on your filter the pre filter? Before receiving it, I thought I would use that as the intake filter.. but I guess I will have to find something else if that is suppose to go on the carbon filter to extend life.

Also, will any ducting work as long as its the same size as my fan? A local shop has 6" aluminum ducting, will that work? Or should I find ducting made out of something else?

Any size ducting will work as long as it's atleast as large as your fan. I actually use 6" ducting as you can see the 6-4" reducer connected to my filter. By aluminum ducting do you mean the shiny foil type? If so, yes that's what most people use, however I found mine developed small holes after a short time of flexing from raising and lowering my light. The holes weren't very big, but big enough and enough of them to allow odors to escape my tent. Because of that, I switched to this. http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-6-Inch-Clear-Ducting-6-Feet.asp

The prefilter is best used around your filter to prevent dust from clogging the carbon. It's basically just polyester batting which you can buy at a craft store if you want some for an intake filter.
