LOL, why do people use this annoying phrase!!!

Seriously, how often do we claim to "laugh out loud" when we're not even holding a grin.

i agree. lol. never laughed out loud myself. i blame nokia..the government, poor education, osama, obama, and the unions, or is it onions.

haha guilty as charged with the lol bull spit, guess it is a habbit from texting like taipanspunk said.

I refuse to use it, or to use k instaed of ok. Hell I don't even like to text, I bought a phone to call people not type a bunch. And now with these smart phone swipping text, it's even worse now. I guess that's the old man in me

In social interaction we often say things we don't really mean. Like this post for istance.

People tack it onto the end of sentences for no apparent reason, it's lame. And in my head I hear it phonetically as in "loll" which is even more annoying. If I think something is funny I'll type "hehe" or Hahahaha!"

I hate texting too, it's like writing notes in high school. Its a pain in the ass to type on a little phone, if you have something to tell me CALL me and tell me, not this kiddie text shit

thats nothing some of the teens i work with have started saying it!!! not even as laugh out loud but just lol. to me that is so fucking annoying and i really want to hit them nut the main 1 is 16 and pregnant. says it all really. stupid wanker kids grr...lol

and whats so wrong with ha ha???

When I actually laugh out loud, I type 'lolirl,' but yeah, 99.9% of the time, I'm barely, if even, cracking a smile.
...lol

Yeah that's bad....
I remember one of my CC english teachers saying that text lingo was not allowed because people were actually using it in their writings. Fucking kids.

God, I thought that I was the only one. Some people use it after every sentence, especially when there's nothing even remotely funny about what has been said.

LOL is more of an ending to something you want to be taken lightly instead of serious more than laughing imo. thats kinda how i feel out something with my chick if i dont know how she is gonna react always add lol haha she calls it a stick figure drowning

I use LOL as a means of emphasizing how i enjoyed someones post. Sure, i could say "that's a very funny post" but alternatively i'm a lazy stoner and "lol" is a heck of an easier way of showing amusement. I don't pmsl or lmao or rofl much if ever, but i have no issue using the word lol to let someone know i found something amusing, in the same way i might reply with "haha" or "hehe" to indicate that they had made a funny.
