Hello.
Right my plant is two days old, and i litterally have the light its under an inch away from the top of the plant, yet it keeps on stretching and getting taller.
what am I doing wrong?

first grow btw.

42w HPS
the 4 leaves its got are a really healthy green colour, but im worried its going to stretch like hell, and I'm planning on keeping the plant small but bushy.
I think its working against me.

It won't stop reaching if you keep moving what it's reaching for farther away.
It should stop reaching on it's own once it reaches the point it's seeking.

But i've been told to keep the light at least an inch away from the top leaves to prevent burning, so as it keeps growing it keeps getting closer to the light, so logically i've been retracting the light.
thanks for the advice though, im going to just leave the light where it is.

Good. It's worth a try. Nobody wants a lanker!
Just keep an eye on it . . . and obviously move it if it won't cooperate and starts trying to commit suicide by heat.
Good luck.
I'm fairly sure an inch is just a goal. Some strains are simply able to take more heat.

nah, my friend has got two 5ft plants in his room, but they are stringy as hell, and they don't look healthy.
I haven't took my eyes off it, since I planted her (I wait for the entire shell to fall off in the paper towel then plant with the little leaves above the soil under 22 hours light) and she's doing well (definetly female 100% female seeds).

I'll post a grow journal soon-ish maybe.
I might be able to help growing n00bs like myself.

The spectrum of a HPS can promote stretching, so its been said.

I had a plant under a 150W HPS and was bushy and tight nodes. So go figure.
Also could be just the genes. (not every human is 5'10" and blonde/blue eyed)

Possibly, would the strain of the plant have anything to with it stretching?
The bag of seeds I got were mixed, White Widow, Northern Lights, Lowryder, and White Shark (I think)

I don't think a certain strain will stretch, but might be more prone to stretching under certain conditions.

BTW, where are the pics? That really helps us help you.

if it keep stretching re pot the plant
Huh? Its stretching growing 'up' looking for something. TP'ing will help the roots. That may give the illusion of stopping the stretching by the roots growing into the new container while the above ground stalls for a few days.

I'm not planning on transplanting just yet, I only planted her two days ago, and at this stage im not sure she'd handle the shock of being transplanted.
I'm gonna transplant when the first fan leaf has formed.

I'll get some pics when I find my digital camera.

how stretched are we talking? like 5cm tall? 42watts thats less than a inch away should not at all make a plant stretch. i use long flouro tubes that are 32 watts and that doesnt even make them stretch

Like she went from being an inch above the soil to being at least 3 inches above the soil in about 8 hours.
I don't know why she is reaching. she has enough light.
