Little Help, First Grow

Hi there,

I erroneously posted my first thread in Newbie Central, and it probably should have been posted here.

I'm engaged in my first grow ever. It is an indoor grow, I water my plants every 3 days approximately. They are growing in generic potting soil with a generous amount of pearlite mixed into it. They are in the vegetative phase of growth.

I will try to take pictures later and post them, for now, let me describe my problems. They mostly stem from my lack of education early on in this process:

It appears as though some of my larger plants have severe nutrient burn. This may be the result of originally using MG potting soil, or possibly from when I replanted them into plain 1:3 mix of perlite and potting soil...the problem is that the perlite is also MG and (although I didn't notice it when I purchased it) it contains MG fertilizer.

The odd thing is, some of the plants are thriving (relatively, i.e. some very slight nute burn on the tips of the lower leaves) and I'm concerned that they're just going to get bad nute burn too. Also, I'm afriad to flush the sick ones, because it's my belief that will just flood the rest of the soil with MG and cause a total catastrophe.

So, do you gurus think I should risk flushing the sickly looking plants, or just crossing my fingers and delicately watering them for a few weeks? Also, as a side note, do you folks think that a 400w HPS/MH system will be satisfactory for a 5'x5' grow area?

Thanks in advance, I'll try to get pix soon.

MG can get nasty. I've managed to use a few bags that did really well, but not in the last few years. I think the Osmocote time released nutes get out of balance and the shit rolls down hill from there.

400 would be good for a 5x5 if you can do a SOG.
