Hiya kyij, hope you getting closer to figuring out which way you gonna go/do Grow..like Southerner says a 600w Digital Ballast, be best option and can always turn down if Temps become a problem at any point. Think a lot of Tents(even the cheaper models) have Various Intake and Exhaust setup(Flaps n Holes) maybe look for 1 with 2 x Exhaust Ports..kinda future proofing a bit? Also you could always just get a Small Size Fan/Filter? for just the Cool Tube and have this on all the time the light is on 18/6 or 12/12 and then if you have the Funds you could still have a Fan/Filter Kit controlled by thermostat for the Tent itself. At the moment I'm Running a 600w in the Flower room and have hung a Fan on a chain pointing straight at the Bulb..No heat untill my hand is next to the bulb and then only warm, I do have a Bigger Fan on the Floor..When My funds permit I want a Air-cooled Hood or CoolTube..

Mind I will be happy just to finish this Grow and then get on with finishing Grow Room properly..kinda had to rush it because my Ladies was getting cramped in the space they had been living...

Do the air cool hps setups allow you to connect an a passive intake, and exhaust (like a cooltube) but then it can cycle air throughout grow room?
Otherwise I would hook up a cool tube with which gets air passively, then Y connect 2 exhaust vents from tent (one exhaust would force new air into tent, and other would be from cool tube, and both lead into the fan pulling it outward w/ filter at end.

Even if I am able to hook up my exhaust to a air cool setup (so it circulates air within the whole tent, and cools the hps), would it keep the tent cool or would it simply circulate the heat from the HPS w/o really cooling it?

And yes I am close to know what I will be doing. I am not going to have this setup til later in year, but it is better to have a plan first so I can buy parts if I find deals and work out bugs with the plan(s) now than later.

Bump - I will rephrase what my question is..

Since a cool tube cools the bulb, that means the grow room would be the ambient temp outside of the room - I assume.

But I like to keep the room temp cool (I like to keep AC Max..) well I would want an external heating - which the light would do very well..
Would an "air cool" system where the exhaust only turns on at temps >x degrees work?

PS: I only need an exhaust to bring new air in and so I can hook it up to a filter to reduce odor.
