Lights vs. light rails?

Seems I never hear anything negative about the lightrails. I mean....not even; "well, you're still far better off with 2 lights as opposed to 1 on a rail".

I will have 2 flowering areas that will each measure about 8 ft long by 3 feet wide and I want to go with 600s. Electrical consumption is of conern as well as heat.

Would 2 600s covering that 3 x 8 area be wayyy more beneficial than 1 on a lightrail?

Also, anyone see any problem with me converting my 430 (Hydrofarm) hoods to 600? I would obviously replace the bulb and ballast, but will the sockets and cords handle the bigger light?

Thanks in advance.

Put 2 600's on light rails, have one a MH and the other HPS and have them alternate sides they are covering.... you will get full spectrum all over every square inch of those bitches all through flowering.

Thanks for the reply. Don't think I've ever seen a 600 mh.

Perhaps I should re-phrase my question::

Is one light, on a rail, MUCH less effective than 2 lights that are stationary (over a span of 8 ft)?

For a area that is 8 feet by 3 feet YES..

Use two lights.

But if you ever get the cash money buy em some light rails too. :)

This question is tottally dependent on the shape and size of the area being lit.

2 lights is always less effective than one no matter what kind of rail its on... its only one light... although if absolutely necessary the rail can get the job done. I was just trying to give you your best option. :)

Cool, and both replies are much appreciated. I suppose common sense dictates two lites are better than one. Just trying to eliminate heat/electrical consumption.

Again I thank you both and have a great weekend.

[FONT=&quot]i love my LightRail. the benefit - with moving your light you can get into the lower leaves with light. also, by moving your light it eliminates hot spots and that lets you run your lights closer which allows you to get a bigger bang for your watt. but man, im thinking 8 feet is too far to move, though. ive got mine maybe 4 feet, maybe a little more, and thats just enough to get in there angled to those lower leaves. i'm guessing if you go too far the plants do without light for too long.
