Lights off?

I know it is very very important that your plants stay in pitch black dark for a full 12hrs in the 12/12 cycle. Is it as important when they are vegging and you have them on like a 20/4 cycle? Does that 4 hours have to stay completely dark or does it really matter? I know when they are vegging you can keep them on 24hrs a day so do they really need that 4hrs to be completely dark? So if you choose to go with a 20/4 or 18/6 or something do those few dark hours need to be dark or can i continue to go in there? Its alot easier to work when that bright light isnt on. The reason i ask is i have took alot of pics when the lights are off cause it looks better. Also, ive worked on them or in the room alot when the lights were off. I have quit doing that recently cause im getting ready to switch to 12/12 but i was wondering if that did any damage to them? I wouldnt think so, or if it did it wouldnt be any noticable damage. Well, thanks for the replies.

I dont think it matters for veg cause i leave my lights 24/7 for that...but for flowering 12/12 when lights off needs to be completly dark or it will think its still in veg or could turn into a hermie....hope that helps

Ok, i was just wondering. I didnt think it was that big of a deal cause its vegging and doesnt need any dark. I just thought since ill be switching over soon i would kinda stop doing that but i dont guess it really matters. Thanks for that quick reply.

if you need to see while you are in the darkperiod of flowering just get a GREEN flashlight and it will not affect the plants any....

maybe even a nightlight with a green christmas bulb in it would work well...

hello this is my first post .I fucked up
I'm in the 5th week of flowering and sometime today,
the timer for my grow light (400w hps) malfunction and the lights went out.
I went to check around 5 pm my plants in pitch dark for don't no how long.
They are on at 8am off at 8pm.
I plugged the light back on and manualy turned it off at 8pm
8 next morning turned it on for the day.
I waited till 8 pm till lights went off and I put a new timer set to regular schedual
Like I said I'm in the 5th week , Every thing went great so far.
Will my plants be OK and still make a good crop.
