Lightings question

I have a 6x6 growing area. I can fit 16 easily. The light I have is 600 watts only. Is that enough also I am using hps and mh light. I will switch them for budding and veg. I want to know if I can just use one light bulb for the entire process and which one is better.

1 600 light for 16 plants isn't enough, really. Unless you grow very small plants, in a SoG/SCoG method... For a normal sized plant a rule of thumb is 100W per plant. Hope that helps.

I've got a 600 in a cool tube and I think it only covers about 4'X4' effectivly. Number of plants really doesn't matter, depends how big you grow them and if/how you train them. 4 plants is all I can fit under mine.

Good question. In a closed in area like a tent you will notice that the MH bulbs run much hotter than the HPS. Stick with just the sodium and you will do better especially this time of year. Also, 16 plants is way too many even in a tent your size. Just because you can fit 16 pots in the space doesn't mean it's a good idea. You are only allowing 2+ square feet per plant and that ain't much. Try a 3 x 3 set up instead of 4 x 4. With summer temps and a 600W bulb you will also need a fan and even then will have to keep the plants at least a foot away from the bulb. After you set the tent up stand inside and hold your hand a foot below the bulb. That will show you how much space you actually have. Trust me, 16 is too many. BigSteve.

If I had to go with one bulb from beginning to end I would pick a MH. Without blue you will have small plants, but without red you won't have the best spectrum for bloom, so you have to decide which. A 1000w fixture is definitely the way go for your room. With that light you will achieve the full potential of your area, and you might as well not waste it. Good luck.

Yeah I think 16 is kind of crazy unless you are going 12/12 from seed.

Look at pics of my 4 in my signature line. These completely clog the light space under my 600W, and I add about 200W of additional CFL's around the edges.

You can only grow so much foliage under a particular power light. Foliage translates into bud. My point being in my setup, I could grow 2 highly vegged and trained plants, or 4 moderately trained (like I have done), or a dozen little plants, and I think the yield would be about the same for any method, done right.

It's all about healthy leaves intercepting good light and growing tissue, ultimately bud.

Im thinking about using cfl like the other guy say. But has anyone try it? Using mh and cfl. I tried on my hps and it kept dying after a few mins. Last year I did same thing and got small yield but my containers were small 1 gallon and half gallons or less. I am running 16/8.
