day 27 vegging...lighting cycle is 18/6...does it hurt to switch it to 16/8? Will this cause a hermie or induce flowering? Just trying to promote the chance of a female..last grow was all male..thanks!

It shouldn't increase or decrease your chances of a female to change the light cycle in the way you describe.
It might increase the chances of a hermaphrodite though just because in nature the light cycle changes very gradually on a daily basis. It's enough of a shock to go to 12/12 from 18/6 or 24/0, and many think the fewer light cycles shocks to a plants system the better.(ie just change the light cycle one time when you're ready to flower and not before)

Ok somebeech..just worry cause basement closet (with door open and exhaust fan) is still 85 degrees. DWC..reservoir temps stay 65 to 70 though. Thanks for your input..it is appreciated...and hey if you grew 4 males last time..wouldn't you be a little worried? I don't know how to clone.

Also if you're really trying to affect your ratios you are on the right track with temp/humidity control. If you have the money/time a lower power light or different setup may be the only solution.
Too many watts in a small space(no matter the type of draw HID/CFL/LED) will build heat quick. If this is the size of light you plan to use for the whole grow 85F isn't that bad with your res temps. It may even help later on for faster growth, but you will get better sexing ratios with a bit lower temp. Maybe buy a low power light for veg to keep temps in range, then hit the high power for flowering.
At 27 days your sex is likely already determined on these plants, spend a good 20 minutes examining the upper nodes on your plant look for signs of sex. If it is not showing yet it should soon. A tent is a nice alternative to a closet because you can have much better ventilation control.

been imprinted weeks ago. Look for the 2 little hairs at leaf-stem junctures that tell
you it's a female.

of light you are signalling the plant that days are getting shorter and it's time to start
flowering. Jump from 18 to 16 hours of light and leave it there a week or 2 before
going to 12/12 to flower. Your plant won't miss a lick and might even appreciate the
gentle step-down.

Yep..freakin DWC for 4 MONTHS..all turned out to be male..I won't bs..i was crushed..that's why I'm so stressed about environmental factors contributing to the sexing of a plant (stuff I read). I just turned off the 400W MH and started using my foxfarm flouro 125W 6700K (along with several full spectrum CFL's)..so i could bring down the heat. I just looked this morning and it looks like a little ding-a-ling is coming out..but maybe i'm being paranoid. thanx for responding

Yeah i hear ya...also got two soil grows going too..my backup in case.
