Light timer w/ CFL's?

Hey, I'm pretty much 99% sure that this is possible, but for some reason when I was up at Home Depot a while back they told me "You can't have an automatic light switcher with bulbs like that" (When talking about my CFL's, from 23 watts to 42 watts.) and I was thinking, wtf?

Wouldn't I just have to like attach the thing to a power bar and then it would turn everything on the bar on / off whenever I set it to? I'm sorry for being so wishy washy and shit, but I've never set up an automatic light system even though I've been growing with CFL's for a while now and since my plants recently are not on-hands all the time (At a friends basement) now and he is pretty busy sometimes I was hoping to get this down pat.

So, long short, if someone could post a product that I could use for switching on/off a 100 or 2 watts (actual) at a time that could be found at Home Depot or Lowes or anything common like that I would be mucho appreciative.

Thanks, sorry for newb post, but still a newb. :blsmoke:

I am pretty sure that guy doesnt know what hes talkin about. I have seen tons of pics of micro grows that have CFL sockets plugged into timers. I have never used one personally but than I have never grown yet either.

Pretty sure your ok

Don't worry
about
what ever the
homedepot
guy told you... just get yourself a descent timer... set it, plug it in, plug in your lights. and test it (by checking up on it when it is
suppose
to turn on and off) You will be good to go =]

Of course you can. All the timer does it cut off electricty and let it through at the times you desire. The bulbs have nothing to do with it. It's like having someone there to flip the light switch when you want

Get a "Heavy Duty Appliance Timer" plug your power bar into that. If its got a ground its good to go.

he probably thought that you need to dim the lights. Traditional dimmers can not be used with these bulbs, ordinary timers (on/off) can be used without problem.

Ya thanks people, thats totally what I figured. There was like 3 of them to, all saying it was impossible and shit. I was like, "Fuck dude how high am I?"

I'll go pick up a heavy duty timer today, I saw one there last time.

Again, thanks for quick responses. 8)

dude they r fucking retarded i got a international timer from home depot all weather and that for like 20-25 bucks
