Welcome Oldsmokie66

Heat lamps put off heat with a side affect of light.

Growing lights like cfl's, hps, and hid put off light and have a side product of heat.

You want to grow not cook.

If you want to go cheap use shop light fluro's (not halogen) or cfl's.

I recomend the hps if you have the $$$ up front.

Good luck.

i have 8 cfls... 6 daylight 2 bright white which produce approx. 13000lumens. my plant grows nicely. like stated above heat lamps will do just that. you want to get baked not your plant. 2-3 23w daylight cfl's would be perfect for a plant.

yea dont use one of those, years ago like 20 i tried using haligen flood lights, or basically work lamps, they worked but got super hot.....totaly the wrong bulb. now i use 4x4 t5 and the other day i added 2 65watt cfl's, like an exta 6800 lumens or something like that and WOW those 2 extra cfl's have done wonders to my veg area. if i was on a budget and didnot have a 1000hps i think ied expermient with large cfl's.....they rock.
