Are we still thinking it finishes bud faster? Its more resinous? Its more potent? Im completely confused. Hps has the UV? Cobs don't have the UV. All have the UV?
from what i understand the only thing with real amounts of uvb are dedicated fluorecents. if it was an uncoated bulb the mercury vapor would be mostly uv. they use the phosphor coating to turn the uv into visible light. so dedicated uv bulbs jsut have less/different phosphor

mhs have it as well but not as much as mercury vapor lamps of which fluorescents are a subset)

hps not so much

Another interesting article. If LED, Cobs, and hps are all testing about the same in potency, I'm just wondering how effective this extra UV supplementation is really needed. Im not trying to knock peoples research, I'm definitely interested in seeing lab results from the community here.
well HPS has almost none so HPS and LEDs (and of course cobs are LEDs) should be similar, and be less potent than properly grown mh, cmh, or t5

You mean the bud should test less potent on HPS and Leds? Well I haven't seen and lab results around here under T-5's or cmh maybe someone will share.

all other things being equal yes. real hard to make all other things equal with such different techs tho. overall plant vigor is still prob the #1 factor in thc production

Turns out that red light at the end of night (right before lights on) does seem to boost plant mass by about 10%. The article was about Dill though, so no guarantees. As the article shows, blue light either end of day or night reduced mass by half. They actually used a half hour of the light though, so the increase with red may be due to the extra light period. Anyway, might be something useful in there.

I've used 730nm as a phytochrome trigger for over 3 years now and won't flower without it at this point. I originally used it to increase yield with the longer light schedule but also noticed a shorter flower time. I use it during the entire flower cycle with a 12/12 cycle at the beginning and end of flower and 13.5/10.5 in between.
I get a noticeable bump in yield and about 7 to 10 day shorter flower time depending on the strain.
@captainmorgan when you say 13.5/10.5 you're referring to 13.5 of light and 10.5 of dark correct?

id go out on a limb to say certainly. thats the point of 730s to save 2 hours of dark time

that cycle would be effectively

12/12 is effectively 14 hours off (to get em flowering faster and also finishing faster)
13.5/10.5 is effectively 12.5 hours off with a bonus of an extra 1.5 hrs of daylight (to add yield)

A quick update to say I don't have much to update. Life is chaotic and I haven't had a chance to pot the clones yet. They are growing nicely (in the cloner) and I'll soon have a massive tangle of roots if I don't hurry up :)
