I understand if we don't get a subforum.... so I'll ask this question here.... I see manufacturers and some users posting how far they keep thier LED light to the top of thier plants. I like to keep mine about an inch away from the top buds... my dilema is i can't get very many plants under it this way. in fact right now i have one of my old mothers under it now and she is taking up the entire light herself. I probably could fit a couple more but i wanted to spoil her as she deserves. so my question is:

How far away to you keep your LED light away from the top of your plants?

I dont and havent use LEDs (yet) but I really would like to see a seperate section in the forums dedicated to the LED growing topics and grow logs, etc. I would like to try LED in the future possibly but the price is too steep for me at this point. I think it would be a good idea to make a LED forum because then it would be so much easier for people who are interested in trying LEDs to see what are good lights to use and learn about them and also see some grows done with them. Its a win situation overall it comes down to convincing the powers that be to do a little extra work to make these forums better! (No harshness towards mods, etc intended)

I keep mine 6" to 8" above the canopy with my 120w and 4" to 6" with my 90w's. These heights give me decent coverage for 4 to 6 plants at a time running the 120w and two 90w's at the same time. Last run with 4 topped and super-cropped white widows pulled 186 grams (6.5oz) dry, plenty for my personal use. Canopy management is the key from what I have experienced with LED's.

Thanks guys, my next question was gonna be how can i get more coverage and my answer is get another light.... I am growing with a 120W and 100W of suplimental CFL's. I have under 7 square feet of grow space. I just use it for personal use. My first harvest was 4 plants and they turned out really nice even though I did everything wrong. I am excited about my next harvest. after that I think I'm gonna buy another light just like it and see if I can fill my small flower box with six plants and see if they grow okay.

Do you guys think two of those panels would be enough to fill up a 32" x 32" grow space(I think I would still keep the CFL's)?

check out my current plant flowering(two weeks under the light change to the day):

Everyone should have their own area of experts to refer to, I am personally waiting to see someone with some serious results from L.E.D and as soon as I think its better than my T5HO's, metal halide and HPS I will be jumping on the efficient lighting wagon. Utilities are outrageous, but quality and quantity come first. I use liquid cooled HPS to keep the heat out of the room, L.E.D's create no heat only the ballast does so that is a definitive advantage

Keep an eye on my current grow (in signature); I'm 2 days from switching the lights to 12/12, running 810w LED and 400w HPS together. The plants look strong so far, I see big potential this round. Maybe I can get you on the LED band-wagon :leaf:

With leD is that very potent and faster growing?
I heard that led is not as hot for mj plants
The potency pretty much comes from the genetics of the plant. And I'm not sure if it affects the time of flowering i never flowered with anything else but LED.

It does produce vey little heat. the plant can almost touch the light. It also produces very dense buds, which means bigger yield in the end. LED lights also last much longer and the deteriation of lumens is much less than HID's.

they are more expensive, but they last longer. A good ballast/reflector/cooling fan and replacing HID lights twice a year can get pretty expensive to.....
