Lens on a HPS light shattered! HELP!

OK heres the deal. I went into my garden last night after the lights went off. Just to check on everything, make sure everything was right and tight. So I go in and the first thing I notice is theres glass all over my plants and all over the ground. Needless to say I was very concerned. :o.

Looks like the tempered glass on the light shattered. It didn't fall out of the light, as there was pieces of the glass still attached to it. Nothing could of hit the light, the light didn't drop or anything. The lights are not vented ATM but my temps never go above 82. Humidity was 72%. I cannot for the life of me figure out how this would happen. ANY IDEAS?

My girls are fine. Just a couple sliced leaflettes but they should be fine!

Do you mist your plants - foliar feeding?
If a drop of water gets on the glass envelope while the lamp is lit this is very likely to happen.

to be sure, you're not talking about an actual bulb breaking, but the glass, correct? Is it tempered glass? I mean, I know it gets very hot right next to the light, but to have it shatter on you like that is just friggin crazy. I'm glad to hear your girls were not hurt. I also don't see how a drop of water on it can cause it either. It sounds like some sort of heat stress to me....and the glass just couldn't take it any longer...

Contact the manufacturer so that they can help solve it. I broke the lens on my Hydrofarm reflector. Its tempered glass so its very strong and is resistant to heat. You need to replace it because otherwise its a much bigger fire hazard. I just measured it, and ordered it from a local glass shop. Cost me $25 and is TEMPERED glass.
