the reason i ask mate is because currently it is white leds that folk are mostly using with some reds
it would seem that finding the so called perfect spectrum has been abandoned in favour of using the most efficient diodes
many led models are out there still using only red and blue .. far from full spectrum and sunlight
since sunlight is now the model that current led like area51 tend to follow with their all white lights
do you think these older red and blue models of led are still better than hids
rather than saying all leds are going to produce better quality bud than hps

i think you are right in one sense i would say plants grown under metal halide and hps together tend to look more robust and it makes sense the more towards sunlight you go the better it should be
growing with the narrow spectrum of hps i am willing to believe that something could be missing
not sure what this something is though because i am happy with my hps bud
in your own opinion which makes more difference to flavour

Although I try to stay out these pointless LED threads, this is not my first rodeo... search member sativied and led if you really want to have an answer to that (spectrum, hvac, LED growers thinking LED magically increases tents and closet sizes...). You and your led buddies make all these bold claims yet haven't proven any of it.
As a matter of fact, yes, I've grown soil+ mineral nutes, organic soil (amongst the best I smoked), and hydroponics (THE way to grow the most healthy best quality and quantity possible). I did use a top dressing (bat shit and palm ash) as PK boosting as I was less informed back then - hence growing organics. I estimate I smoked about 50,000 joints in my life, from hundreds of coffeeshops, thousands of growers. I'm not a master grower, I'm a connoisseur. Your comments about growing boutique organic buds in a reply to me pointing out that nearly dead plant are not even worth raising my eyebrows over. That is not something that happened over the last days or even week, that's trying to get big buds with bloom nutes.

0.4gpw... why is this thread still going, how do you get the balls to still compare HPS to LED? How you do get the balls of talking about subjectiveness to me while you compare your low quality low quantity failed HPS grows to acceptable quality and quantity LED. And refer to someone else's subjective smell and taste (of probably another failed-HPS-grower). You're a fraud. More people will waste their time and money because you want to convince yourself so badly.

Talent is something you're born with that can't be taught. Miguel Cabrera is talented. Any dispshit can grow a plant. Once you get better at it you develop what's referred to as a skill. Similar to someone that can lay tile.

Here is some White Widow Bud porn, I thought that it would be early next week to harvest but She is ready today. It is day 46 of flower, done 10 day's earlier than the specs called for 55-60 day's. Has about 15-20% amber, thought I saw some a few day's ago. This is half of a 200 watt grow, the other one is 3 day's behind. So this is 100 watt's worth. STICKYAttachments

quite a few led growers report .4 to .5 gpw as their best yield from hps and they also claim hps growers lie about yield etc
this does invalidate their view on hps imo .. they do not have good hps experience to compare to led
i really do not understand how someone can think hps makes weed taste like grass or hay either thats just silly talk
these very same people would of been smoking hps weed for many years before they joined the led crew

I have to agree. I'm sold on the efficiency of LED technology and will likely take the plunge and buy a couple, but I have a hard time believing that my weed is going to all of a sudden taste so much better by switching lights.

LEDs emit ALL their rated output in a beam angle, 115 degrees. HID emits in 360 degrees. Do you dispute that?
Without even going into spectrum, you do not need to be a genius to figure out how to take advantage of these characteristics for growing weed. If you are intelligent and guided by reason, that should be obvious to you.
The plant you are referring to is in the background of the Ace of Spades pic, I was not showcasing it as an example of awesomeness. That said, it was not bad smoke at all. It WAS NOT FED. Water only. It is not a nute burn. I am not going to repeat myself again.
We are polar opposites, day and night. I won't even touch your comment about the superiority of hydroponics for boutique herb. I hope that works out for you LOL.
Back to some interesting and useful discussion. Here is what some growers are doing instead of 2000W HPS. 1100W of COB running at 42% efficiency. No lumen depreciation over years of nonstop use. It will be very interesting to see the results these can turn out.

Look into supras history or greengenes recent video, everything you need to know is there.
If you must, look into Area 51, im on harvest # 3 with the xgs model and happy to report ive been averaging 4+ oz with 180 watts, from a og strain aand querkal strain.
Of course like others mention the apache is top of the line, and heard good things about onyx, but honestly, diy cobs is where its at, currently im in week 2-3 in flower and wow, explosive healthy growth.
You will notice a few members ( theres actually many) in the led section that know what they are talking about. I have a feeling we will be seeing you in the led section as much as i see you in the organics section.

i ask myself if this is really progress
it has taken over 30 years to get to 20 power supplies for a light
im sure it will grow fine weed, but i would have to taste the finished product to believe it will be noticeably better
im not convinced led are the future i still want to give them a try one day
i do hope a better alternative is found in the future that requires fewer components/bulbs
