Here's some of the info about the new line of lights coming out from Advanced that I was talking about. It's not the whole thing because it was fairly long, but this should give you some good info about it. This info came in an email from Advanced.

Introducing The New 2011 Diamond Series from Advanced LED. The Diamond Series is the most advanced LED grow light ever produced and builds on the success of our Extreme Flower LEDs with these advanced features:
New - Precision Made Diamond Lenses with Huge 3W LEDs
New - Custom Designed Housing with Advanced Air Flow
New - Advanced LED Drivers for Higher Performance
New - Color Select Switch with Clone, Veg and Flower Modes
New - Dual Heat Sink Reduces Heat by over 50% vs Others
New - Daisy Chain Link Feature Allows up to 3 Lights on One Cord
New - Lower Prices!

20.jpeg21.jpeg

100w Diamond Series - Coverage: 1.5 x 2.5
200w Diamond Series - Coverage: 2 x 3
300w Diamond Series - Coverage: 3 x 3
400w Diamond Series - Coverage: 2 x 4
600w Diamond Series - Coverage: 2.5 x 4
800w Diamond Series - Coverage: 3 x 4

Here's some of the 3rd party review that was included in the email too:
"I divided my space into three separate chambers with light barriers. I placed three Advanced LEDs in there, their current 180w, a 360w and their new Diamond Series 200w."
"Keeping the comparison fair, I used clones of 2 strains and gave each light a total of 4 plants to grow. They all are looking great, but as expected the plants under the 360 are heavier and thicker than the 180. What wasn't expected was that the plants under the 200w Diamond Series are as big and dense as the ones under the 360w."

End of email info...

There you have it. I'm looking forward to seeing what these can do.

I think that a true wattage led could go watt for watt with a hid as long as you used several panels instead of just one big panel. Im wondering who youve seen grow big buds under one hid with 80 plants that are 1-3 feet tall though. I know 1000s are good but I didnt know that you could cover 80 square feet with one. I know manufacturers say they will cover ten by ten but I thought to grow anything worth a shit it was more like 6x6. I dont really know though so point me in the direction of a one hid 80 plant grow if u can. Ive used smaller hids and they work great but they get hot. My leds work great to though my 150 hps and my blackstar running 130-140 actual watt are sitting side by side over one lemon skunk. Some of the buds get light from both lights and some get light from one or the other. I know its not a real comparison because they have access to both lights but both seem to be doin about the same. A couple on the hps side are bigger but mainly because its on an adjustable light hanger so it stay within inches from the tops the led is hanging about a foot above the plants. People will argue all day over whats better but both have there place in the grow world its just best to use what u think is best. I thought a combination would be best for me and its working out so far.

Please give me your thoughts people. I'm looking for side led lighting to supplement the current set up and want to pick up some 50 watters. Right now it is between the blackstar which I'm honestly not a huge fan of, but given the price am considering and the 50 panel on www.growlightpro.com. The latter carries a better warranty and claims to produce 4400 lumens on 25 3w chips driven to approx 2w.

I love my pro-grows on top but always used cfls as side lighting to supplement my hps grow so this idea makes sense to me. I'm leaning towards the growlightpro simply because it is longer than the blackstar (ufo) and is probably better suited for side lighting (even though the website is riddled with grammatical errors obvious to a 3rd grader).

Talk me out of it, tell me which you think is better (and why plz), or give me a different company where I can pick up something in the 50w range to hang on the sides. As this is purely for side lighting I'm trying to keep it around $100 bucks a light. Thank you in advance for your opinions.

Lol for $539 for a 180 theres no telling what the new diamond series will run. I just cant see myself payin that price for something that covers such a small area.

I agree, I find the panel interesting and it does indeed look like they are advancing in the right direction. Daisy chaining panels together via a single cord is also a plus but the price needs to come down some. Unfortunately I predict that as LED panels advance that the price will either stay the same or slightly increase due to the upgrades. The price has to be decent because if it's up there and I can get 3 BS 240's for the price of a 200 then all the lenses won't matter vs 6 square feet of direct coverage and an extra 190 watts to boot.

HTG has upgraded their LED selection again, and this one in particular looks promising:
http://www.htgsupply.com/Files/Products/LED240.jpg

Even though it's being advertised as a 240W light, being 80 x 3W, it's pulling 160W tops.
Outside of this advertising ploy, the light's specs look pretty solid, and they are actually listed in full :O
So $265 ($276 shipped) for what's likely a 150W LED light isn't that bad.

I know someone on here had some HTG LED's before, but didn't have the best results with them.
Seems like HTG is trying to confuse and steal Gotham Hydro's potential Blackstar customers with this new 240W model.
The Ebay auction page for it even has "star black" in the main description line for search engine purposes, even though this LED light is not named "star black".
Such shenanigans.

I say go for the growlightpro model, despite his broken english, the guy seems to have a good understanding of lighting in his Youtube vids.
Even if its got a 120 degree lens (not sure what lens is on there, I know they used 120's in the past), that's fine for the side lighting you'd be using it for.

That's not a bad price. Hopefully someone will get one of those new htg ones and let us know what's up with them. My gf went through my bank statements and found my tent/240w bs buy on there so I got a wtf are u thinking speech. Needless to say it'll be a month or two or six lol before I buy another light.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. It is just side lighting, I've already got two Pro-Grow 180s and a 2010 model PG 250 for top lighting. He replied quicky to my emails addressing my questions with the answers I needed. It is a 60 degree lens.

Plus its 18 inches long, for a 50w side lighter that makes sense to me as I can hang them horizontally when they're babies then move them to vertical positions once my girls get older. Thanks for the input.

That looks so much like a BlackStar but the diode pattern is indeed different. It is nice to see another panel in that entry level wallet friendly price range... competition is good and maybe they will fight it out with price drops. =)

Nevermind! Just found a GLH Spectra 100w ufo on ebay (45X 3w chipset driven to about 2.1w - new lamp clearance item) for $120 + free shipping. Gotta love the ebay. If this link below is true just saved 160 bones. I'm sure this will kick much ass as side lighting.

http://forum.bubbleponics.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-4755.html (see price paid the spectra 100) - ye haw

There are some pretty sick deals on there right now (ebay) for some of their other 2011 models, pretty scandalous deals compared to what GLH is charging retail.

I have that current 180w model right now and it was well worth the $500. It paid for itself after the first grow and the harvest was exceptional. I'm not sure what the new diamond series will run price wise after the discount is over, but the discount prices are very managable considering how well they should perform.

The 2 x 3 footprint on the 200w diamond series is 6 sq. ft. too; and if the light can perform as well as a 360w (actual pull) at only 200w, then the extra watts you get from the three blackstars are nothing more than a waste of electricity. My goal with leds is to get max performance with minimal wattage and these new diamond series panels look to do that.

LOL I know im late to jump in but just made this account. when i first started we used only cfls, but it used so much damn electric and made the room hotter then fuck. We switched to some big leds i got from a local store. electric bill has dropped as well as heat, and now they are finally gettin some nice buds. :) i have a idea for a bad ass led panel but just saiting on the funds to make it all.

Hi all

I've been following this thread for a little while now, nice to find so many other LED enthusiasts out there.

I have been an LED grower/enthusiast for a few years now. I have bought a few lights from some of the LED grow light companies mentioned, but I have never been that happy with the results considering some of the prices I have paid...

I have been building my own grow lights for the past 2 years and have had some great results.

I have made a couple of "breakthroughs" in regards to spectrum/light intensity etc.

I am now in the process of designing my own type of LED grow light, which will be on the market in January 2012.

I have been designing my light to the following criteria:

-High-Performance in terms of PAR
-Practical
-Optimal spectrum for plant growth (in terms of light used by cannabis, not all green leaved plants like many other grow light companies, the data that alot of them use, is quite old and holds no real bearing to cannabis's preferred spectrum)

And finally affordability (something I have really been working on. Some of the prices I have seen advertised for other grow lights are absurd)

My question to you guys is this....

What do you most want to see in an led grow light, what are the biggest factors that come into play for you, when deciding what grow light you choose?

If this post has no place in this thread, then by all means do not reply or delete if necessary.

I am an honest grower who has a major interest in growing with LED's. I want to build a decent light that hopefully will become popular through how it performs...without using some of the misleading marketing hype that I have seen used all too often.
