All I know is I tried to be chill about the first messed up light even though it took so long (grow time) to get a replacement out and now the others are going to take even longer. Unless they send a free light with my replacements I will never buy Kessil again. HAHA, they inquired about my t-shirt size as if me advertising for the company is going to smooth things over, nope, and here's the kicker they waited to hear back from me on my t-shirt size before sending my lights out. WHAT?? I couldn't believe so I told them they can keep their t-shirts, that there's no chance I'd wear them after all these delays.
that says it all right there.... a fuckin t shirt?!?!?!?! what are ya gonna grow with a tshirt!! that is very poor customer support on such a large order.

Yeah I got them both mixed, (I use all LED for the last weeks, it really speeds up the plants "Holy shit its getting cold" instincts}). I love the mix of HID and LED, but I don't know, it makes me wish that my room was 10 degrees warmer so I could run without the HID. Its quasi-perpetual, I stretch out my vegging time every so often to crank out the yield, most of the perpetual part is luck and the quasi part is disorganization. The weight seems to be there (I'll weigh sometime next week before the cure) and the quality is spectacular. I mean spectacular. I am just using ho hum nirvana seeds and this is some killer fucking shit coming out the other end.

Granted this is just my second grow, with my third about to start to flower next week, but I can complain at all. I am not going for the most g/watt (at least as of yet) but I am getting a minimum (outside of the sickly clone) 2 zips per plant. Up to 4 ounces I believe. I have All the plants separated and labeled on the hangers so I can confirm the weight per plant.

5 more to harvest this week and then off to the Snow Whites, which I got LST'd to all hell and rigged some 10 gallon tubs to grow each one in. I germed them on 12/30, so I hope they get huge with this nice long veg (will go 12/12 at 7 weeks on 2/20).

Insane and frustrating since this was supposed to be an all Kessil test run and I've had to use so many other backup lights (CFLS and smaller LED units). I was looking to see how many Kessils I need to expand an 8' x 8' area to a 16' x 16' area, which in regard to the Kessil I've abandoned. There's no way I would sink the amount of money it would take to cover that area into Kessil when I've had this much problems with their units. So for now I'm moving all my lovely ladies(mostly cotton candy and sour d) from this test tent to my main flower area. I have 10 silver haze rooted clones that I will put back into my main veg room and I picked up 2 par 38 15 w Blue LEDs for less than $90 as supplement light while waiting for my Kessils. The plants under these are doing extremely well so I'm going to test these lights on a small veg cabinet on the 10 silver haze to see what they can do with them as stand alone. I ordered them after the first malfunctioning Kessil and they are already working while I seem to be in a perpetual state of waiting on Kessil. I still have a budget of 2500-3000(and currently increasing) to throw at this so I know I'll reach my goals but I know Kessil wont be the way I go. The lights that work are so intense and kicking ass but I have to wonder, isn't precision and reliability more important?? I'm thinking of going all ISIS now or all Blackstar. Down for recommendations.

Love all the new pics. Looking delicious and making me wanna smoke!! So you are using a 750w blackstar combined with 1000w HPS for flower?? Is it a perpetual harvest? As soon as I have enough LED I want to pull my HID lights out of my main area where I've been using LED as supplemental lighting, but beginning to wonder if it's possible.

hey hudson, you have opened up the blackstar models right
what temps do they put out? i was curious because some say that they make temps in grow rooms over 100 degrees. is this bullshit, cuz that was my only reason for not getting their 500w. BTW i really digg the work youve done, providing us with savings/watt and asking specific companies the info on draw. awesome.

Someone in this thread put a heat gun on their heat plate (they don't run a heat sink) and it was 35C so about 95F. All LED's put out heat but unless you are running them in a shoebox I can't see you getting to 100F. Depends on ambient room temp, insulation, air flow etc but in the end they just don't produce anywhere near the BTU's that HID put out.

so your saying that they will be fine in a grow tent? are you saying thay blackstar doesnt use a heatsink? isnt that bad?

HigH people. Just wanted to throw my LED light into the mix. I have a 270w Enhanced Spectrum Supernova that I bought from hidhut last July. I just harvested my second autoflower grow today. I have never grown before these two grows and I have to say that the buds my light has produced these first two grows are killa! I am very pleased with the performance of my light. Still waiting for some LSD seeds and blue mystic seeds from attitude so I can start my first regular grow with my light. I am also switching to canna and coco. I have my first grow on RIU and will definitely post this next grow since I will be switching mediums and will seek some advice from the RIU community. I pulled 5.2 oz. Dry from the first grow which was 2 onyx and 1 EasyRyder. My cabinet is 5'hx3'wx2'd. Using it to dry right now. Anyway just wanted to say the Supernova has performed exactly as I hoped it would for my set up! Dense Nuggz! My temps stay in the mid to high seventies sometimes a lil warmer not too much though.

I don't know what your ambient temp is or anything about your situation so hard to say, but generally speaking as a worst case scenario you might need a low cfm fan for temp control if you are running LEDs.

Not sure about the current Blackstars but the last ones someone pulled apart on here didn't use heat sinks. Their claim is that they use the newest and best LED's made by CREE and are very thermally efficient and don't need to run a heat sink. Most expensive LED's available in the cheapest panel on the market? I dunno, I don't run them.

That's a hell of a crop for three autoflowers. Nice work!

Haven't seen this light before, is that 270 watts actual draw or advertized max? I see it has 270 leds so are they 1 watters? What's the price tag on one of those?

High power LED lights do put out heat, less overall than an HID of similar wattage. The difference here is you can no longer vent away that heat with an LED the way your could with venting and the reflector hood and a fan just for the light. Now that heat goes into the growing space and the only way you are getting rid of it now is through your Exhaust/filter for the whole growing chamber. I suppose you could somewhat easily craft something around the light so the heat gets more trapped above. But I'm pretty darn happy with the temps I'm getting with my 395w spectra in a 2.5ft x2.5ft x 6ft tent with a not so great exhaust fan.

Thanks! That was a killa haul for my first ever grow! The Supernova I have cost $1200. Dam! I know it's spendy? Like I said I'm a rookie to everything about growing except smoking! Last year I seen my light in the 2010 Hightimesmag grow gear guide(STASH awards) and they had the Supernova as the best new LED technology. So I sold my drum set and ordered it. Of course once I get my light in July they come out with the 2011 grow gearguide and have another light listed as best new tech. Whatta ya gonna do lol? Anyway I am very happy with the Supernova! They are 1w bulbs and I'm not sure of the actual draw maybe I should know that. My main thing when I was looking for a quality LED was a light I could use for all phases of growth. I did not want to add any supplemental lighting. I only wanted one light for the job and the Supernova definitely does the job for that!
Like I said before the nuggs are dense so as far as I'm concerned it's doing the job! I just harvested 2 onyx 2 easyryder and 1 Haze auto autoflowers. Im thinking I'll get 7oz dry hopefully 8. Really can't wait to see this baby in action on my next grow. No autos this time gonna grow some LSD and Blue Mystic In coco. Well after these first two grows there is one question I don't have anymore! Will my light perform? Hells yeah the Supernova performs!

I am in the same boat..... I thought that so so genetics were going to hold me back with the Nirvana beans i was using with the last autoflower they had available. All I can say is on Nirvana's website they dont have buds anywhere near as frosty as mine and I still have 3-4 weeks of flower to go. Like seriously this shizz is FROSTY THE SNOW MAN style. I will post some pics tonight for yall with my new lights. I got 2 240w units a 100w unit in the middle with like 200-250w worth of supplemental cfl lighting for the 100w unit. I honestly think these babies do wonders for flowering my plants exploded once i got the original led and now that i ramped up the power they are going crazy in there again. With training and some tlc I feel that I could pull big numbers as well. I hope to run 1 more 240w unit in there and i think im full of light until i set up the SOG for the auroa indica/cheese sativa double grow i will set up perpetual then I'm gonna use 4 and set it up on a rotating 2 week 4 square configuration. Overall I am pleased with what i got and will grow with it.

It depends on your grow room. The exhaust air for mine is about 85 degrees, the surface of the heat sink is (at its highest) 94 degrees. The surface of the LED lens is (at its highest) 95 degrees. If you have a small grow tent with no exhaust, (which is a bad idea no matter what) then yeah, it is possible to heat up a tent over enough time to the upper nineties (perhaps into the 100s if the ambient air gets hot enough). Lets not forget that there is also IR leds on that model (which also emit a good amount of heat, although they are not found in any sizable quantity). What I gather from that story is that someone needs to ventilate their grow tent better. LED's do give off a small amount of heat. Small amounts of heat, when not moved, will gradually pile up into larger amounts of heat.

Some people aren't in the best situation to start a grow, and take the word "stealth" a bit too far and try to have practically air tight grow tents/rooms, that is probably the case in the story you heard. I have the 500W (285ish watt actual draw before someone jams that down my throat) and the measurements were taken from it. I love it. I can't see having a proper grow setup and having an LED increase the temp to 100 degrees.

Im toying with the idea of getting a veg LED unit, and seeing how those work. But all in all I submitted my pics to Nirvana as I thought the same thing you did. I would send your pics to them, if they use yours you get like 1000 points of some shit. It just makes me think what would happen if I got some sensi seeds in there.

My 180w Blackstar keeps the small cab between 3 and 5 degrees above ambient temps. I've been testing it for the last several days.

closeupsidevents.JPGcabinet1.jpgtemp.JPG

Ive sunk the leds vents just below the top of the cab and sealed any gaps. To prevent vibration noises I have suspended the light on dowels resting on foam.

This has been a trial period. I'll be increasing the size of the vent to try and bring the cab temps closer to ambient.

I need to get some shades to wear when I open the door!

Cool little cab, where do you plan to pull air out of that and filter it? And what the heck was it before you put a UFO in it?
