LED questions and more

alright i know many of you will argue the fact that HPS and MH are the end all and be all of lighting but as technology advances a lot more people are using LED and with good results.


i have noticed that mostly all LED companies advertise that there lights work for a specific "flower"(marijuana) but what about fruits & veggies? like strawberries, peas, beans. has anyone attempted?


i'm living in a basement of a house and i got the go ahead from my landlord that i can use the unfinished bathroom as a grow room.


i'll be growing herbs, lettuces and hopefully fruits and veggies if i can get a straight answer on if LED's are a good option for it. also it wouldn't be a problem supplementing the LED with 125w or 200W sunblaster CFL's.


any good grow journals on here that use LED that aren't pertained to marijuana?
 
i have every reason to believe it will work. i've used led's but not in that capacity. but there shouldn't be a difference so give it a whirl and keep us posted.

alright will do. i know there good enough to grow leaf matter and flowers.. but i guess we will see the outcome when it comes to producing the beans or peas after the flowering. any good LED companies? i know blackstar and vipar have been coming up a lot... high times finally recognizes LED and swears on this one company. just don't want to throw my money away
 
I have a $20 LED panel that I tried out and it did pretty good with lettuce imo but I know it could have done better.
 
Any setup that will grow cannabis leaves will grow other sorts of leaves.

I've never tried growing strawberries under artificial lighting, but basil, mint, and those sorts of leafy herbs competely go crazy in a hydroponic/vegetative setup. Massive production.

I have no doubt that you could do it with LEDs, so long as the panel in question put out a good spectrum.

Yea. I would grow it in hydo if using LEDs imo.
 
yeah i wasnt going to grow with soil.. i find hydroponics easier imho. Might be a little more upkeep with cleaning and stuff but its easier to control and manage
 
If you do it right you would have enough tubs to change your plants into the new one and not have to clean every thing 1 at a time and put them into a new one.

I found out the hard way on how much of a pain it is when I first started out with just an AeroGarden for my herb garden. It takes more then a couple to a few mins to clean your res properly.
 
i have an led and i have some veggies in there right now. i have a small tomato plant. and i have some seedling the seeds respond well by fast growth.

they havent fruited yet. they are growing pretty good tho. i have flowers forming and probably gonna open up in a couple days. so ill have some final fruit in about 2 months. its got a limited space so idk how big it will grow. i am just trying it indoors since its so hot outside i think my flowers are dying halfway through pollenation or something since they get little tomato but never grow at all.

Could be many factors.. nutrients, weather, water you are using, medium your using(hydro or type of soil) im not to sure about the intricacies of a tomato plant but if there self polinaters like strawberries you might need to get a small slightly fluffy paint brush and do it yourself.

Thats just my deduction of the situation i could be 100% wrong. I do know strawberries need a hand if there grown indoors though. **be a bug, act like a bug** bizz bizz xD
