LED question

Dadgumit...it's hard to do a search for "led"....or anyother 3-letter word I guess.

Anyway,
Does anyone have any experience with this light from HTG?

I don't understand LED's but this thing looks like a great deal, according to their description.

Questions:

Would this be a "replacement" for a 1000w hps in a 4x5 or 5x5 grow tent. I mean, if it does what they say, it seems that it would be well worth it because you don't have to deal with cooling the 1000w hps, fluctuations in temperature, etc.

Thanks for any input.

Some good LED journals with lots of discussion..

Quick Synopsis..

Everyone seems to boast for their favorite company, HTG is a reliable supplier and I would trust their product. I personally tried the low watt Chinese panels out and I liked the results so far but don't see them doing well in flowering and plan to upgrade to the 250w unit from HydroponicsHut.com and use the panels as side lighting.

The #1 rule of thumb for LED's is that sometimes things seem too good to be true and you should trust that instinct. The claims most of these companies make is outrageous. You can grow good, healthy, fruitful plants using LED but if someone compares their LED light to a 1000w, I'd be likely to assume it's closer to the productivity of a 600w.. I am an advocate for the technology though and I implore you to explore the road if you have the money to invest in doing it properly. Skip the cheap Chinese products though.

there is some info missing, such as optics angle, but in short, no. I don't believe this would be a good replacement for a 1000w. Maybe replace a 600, but might not penetrate as well (all depends on the optics angles really). Might have penetration like a 400w but light output like a 600w, which would be good for veging, or with a smaller angle might penetrate more like the 600w. I'm not familiar with this particular fixture, so who knows. Emitters can vary dramatically in performance. If you're looking for replacements for a 1000w, take a look at the stealth led systems, like maybe the 600w.
