LED question: Alternative to CFLs?

So while watching the new Parks and Recreation I saw this add for a new LED bulb that plugs into any lighting fixture. I was wondering how effective if at all these lights would be at growing, because essentially they could be the affordable alternative to cfls if they work for growing. Anyone care to shed some light on the topic?

If you notice next time you are in a store with a decent bulb selection, that there will be several different types of LEDs that fit into regular lamp sockets. Most tend to be very expensive with very low lumen output though, so not sure how effective they would be for growing.

Globe LEDs doing just fine in my thread. Vegging clones with 22w 5000K (looks more like 4000K though). Also several have flowered under low watt leds
