Led or HPS HELP!!!

Hey all. New to this. Am trying to figure out and want opinions on light choice.

If you had to choose would you go with a 1000w equivalent <240w actual> Cree LED COB or a true 1000w HPS/CMH?
Opinions and reasons please.

Keep in mind heat/space is not an issue here...

I would go LED. I do not have any experience however it is evident they are way more efficient.

HPS bulb gives off light 360 degree therefore a lot of light is wasted (reflected light is a lot lower intensity) and a hell of a lot of energy is wasted as heat.

LED gives of < 120 degrees light and wastes less energy on heat.

You could assume that LED is at least 3x more efficient therefore 3x more effective per watt (assuming same colour spectrums)

There is a limit to how much light plants can use, you could reach max usable light with 1/3 watts compared to HPS - max usable light will depend on your environmental variables

LED will be more expensive initially but you will save money over time as the bulbs last a lot longer and use less energy

Depends on what you want to do. 240 watt led would work great in a 3x3 and ok in a 4x4, same with a 315cmh. 1000w Hps will light up a 5x5 area.

My grow room is 10x13x8.
Canopy can be as big as I can afford.
Looking for best bang for my buck for around $200ish...

Yeah man there are so many factors that you have to consider but if I were you ,I’d go led as u probably should get some good ones and do some research first . I’m also transitioning to led and what I gather is just cause they say a certain wattage doesn’t mean they’ll produce that wattage .... hps is still the easiest way to get big buds
Unless you are a great led grower with great leds.

More efficient than hps, easier to grow with, causes less heat and can stand higher temps, and you dont have to control vpd in the same way as with leds cause theres a little infrared to work that transpiration. Better quality weed, and just easy all around. With batwing reflectors they give a real nice 4x2 foot print which is a good match to 315w.

To anyone who mainly has heat around id rec leds, but if you got real winters then CMH.

Edit: OP: get used to the idea that things cost a lot more than 200$. Lighting is only part of your setup, climate is even more important.

I understand.
Climate isn't an issue.
Grow is in a basement. 72-74 deg. and 45-50% humidity year round.
Just need best bang for my buck lighting now so I can get rid of these flourecents...

How many plants are you trying to grow? You already have exhaust fans and circulation fans? If it's 72-74 with no lights it's going to get hot

If your room is already cool like a basement and you spend for some pricey LED lighting but you are able to avoid having to add an AC then that cost savings can help pay for the lights.

In the long run if you get the proper amount of quality LED the energy savings is significant from not having to run an AC and only using 60 - 70 percent of the wattage for lighting. So if it's in the budget and bite the bullet you can really end up with a cost efficient grow.

The 1000W Hortilux conversion bulb I'm using now would cost me over $200 to replace tho I got mine for $170. Massive light output compared to the 1000W Light EnerG Super HPS bulbs I got for $40 each and only uses 940W.

How much of that 10x13' area to you plan to use for actual grow space? I'm only using about 5x3' of my 9x7' grow room for plants and have the light hanging from a light rail to get the best coverage of that so one light isn't going to do your whole room no matter what you get.

Either increase your budget or reduce your expectations.
