With those Gavita DE units you should go 5gal. With the extra intensity your plants will grow quickly. Ever thought about coco and perlite?

You talkin Gavita? 2x600 would be more than enough. Wouldn't be surprised to see you pull down 4lbs+ if you have shit dialed in tight and your game is on point.
They perform more like digital 1000's IMO/E. They are bright as fuck. I've put my light meter under them they are very intense. You see one lit up and you know.
3x would probably be overkill but you could do it. Not sure how much it would help.

What is it about the double ending that makes them better? I guess the gravita are not able to run in cool tubes. Wouldn't the heat be excessive ?

Yeah they produce some heat, although I run them with just using regular air circ. The ballast being right beside the bulb means they can be driven at higher frequencies which results in improved performance and longevity of the bulbs as well.

Somebody makes an air cooled reflector for DE bulbs, not sure who.
I was considering gavita's for my new op but the structure I would need to hang them from would have been a major pain in the ass. I'm sticking with vert SE for now

I don't know of there are any air cooled shades already built with DE connections but you could get any rectangular air cooled shade and attach a Adjust A Wing DE socket set and use a remote ballast.

From what I've read about DE, you shouldn't air cool them directly. The need to operate at a certain temp for proper spectrum.
The air cooled hoods for DE have another tube over the bulb, keeping it out of the air stream.

led seems to be the future of indoor growing, simply more efficient. as of now if you are considering lights for growing the ceramic discharge lamps cdl, light emmitting ceramics lec,, or ceramic metal hallides cmh, all the same thing.. the 315 watt lamps are 35% more efficient than a standard HPS or DE HPS...alot of commercial growers are switching to ceramics because they are better,save money on electric and produce even better..

315 cost about $700 for the combo so $1400-2100 vs $300-600 for HID. Again its great and all but not when you have to spend 5x+ more then HID.

Good thing is you can keep the 3ft away from the canopy, use tons of air circulation and a intake/outtake. I believe in the double ended theory...cool your environment not your bulb. Canada doesn't have much from what I have found. Check out sun system,growers house and monster gardens in the states. Also complete fixtures eleminate RFI.

The price is the main issue. Commercially itd be too expensive. For a personal medical grow in a tent, a lot of patients would benefit, if not for the cost of a GOOD LED light. I.E Not Crap King LED

As for the coco I'm thinking about it, no more lugging dirt in and out. LED is a great idea but it's not there yet. I think the CMH is the best route for a effecient grow.

6' in and 6' out, 3 oscillating wall mounts per 4000w. Im thinking of going 6x 600w in each room instead of 4x 1000w, i have the space and the environment will be a lot more comfortable, i plan on keep the plants 3ft away from the bulb. I think it would be more beneficial with the light spread plus i would have hydro savings equivalent to my entire veg area.
