LED Lighting 2' x 2x5' Timber COB - Noob on Distress

Hey guys,

I've spent quite a while researching new LED lights to replace my P300 Platinum. Seems there are so many options out there. I just want to make sure about couple of things before I spend anything.

I bought a Gorilla Grow Tent 2' x 2.5' x 6.11'

I plan to grow 2 max 3 plants

I've been watching Tasty and Timber very closely and I like the idea of creating my own aluminum frame. I am inclining more each time to Timber Grow Lights due to being a little bit more dynamic.

I would really like to know from experienced growers what they recommend for this setup. If a 300w or 400w or other. Am not sure about the PPFD, either it will be too much for my space under 400W or small under 300W?

The 400W Vero which I think its the newer version and cheaper has a kit like this.
http://timbergrowlights.com/400-watt-vero29-v7-square-framework/ It says it will cover area 3x3 and 3.5x3.5 - So will I be going higher than the PPFD under my size tent?

Am not sure if that will be too much. They don't have Square frameworks for 300W under Vero version. Other versions will be more expensive.

If I have to buy lights separate and make my own framework, I will. It would be nice to get a little guidance under my space setup as well as realistic yields I could get.

Am going nuts with so much info, dont know which is real and which is not LOL. Any other brands or setups are welcome.

Thank again guys.

That's the problem with LED's: WAY too much information and all of it is, at best, confusing; at worst, dubious to say the very least. That's why I and most everybody I know has stuck with MH/HPS: it's proven, effective, a known factor, and guarantees results you can set your damn watch by.

I will say this: that is a VERY small tent. I wouldn't do more than two plants at all. Hell, just one plant topped properly will completely fill it up. In an MH/HPS setup, a single 300 watt fixture would be more than enough and give you great results.

As far as LED goes, hell...who knows?

A typical plant will easily fill a 2 x 2

check out northernlights Quantum Boards, which should be ideal for your tent

I run a Gorilla Grow 2x 2.5 tent with the 1 foot extender on the top.
Growing 3 smallish plants in it in 3 gallon buckets. The tent will hold 3 buckets, but it is a tight fit.
Running Timber cobs. Cree 3590 cobs. I run 5 at 50 watts each(250 watts total, 1.4 amps) in an X pattern, like 16 inches long. That is 1 cob and 50 watts per square foot and the PPFD is fairly maximum. Running 400 watts in a tent that size is a bit overkill. With my 250 watts, i can give young, growing plants too much light. It is spot on for flowering.

Yeah I agree for the most part. My goal is not to use HPS the reason is that I live in a tropical country and humidity/temps levels are already a bit high. So if I use HPS it will get substancially hotter than LED from what i've read.

Thanks for the input man!

Dude where have you been?!! :) . You got the setup am looking for...

After I made the post I found the one you are using, although it looks like a different frame ---> http://timbergrowlights.com/250-watt-citizen-clu048-square-framework/

I chose citizen since its about 100 bucks less than cree, and they dont seem to have vero on that frame. (Haven't bought anything yet)

Couple of questions my friend, if I may...

- Are you growing Autos or Fem?
- What yield do you get or expect from 3gls & 3Strains
- How much time to you let them veg and how much on flowering.
- do you LST or Top/Defoliate?
- Did you made that frame? haven't seen it on the website, very cool design!

I really appreciate this!!!

thanks again

-I run fems. Never ran autos before, and not enough room for regs and sexing, Fems.
-The amount of yield does vary a lot. I have harvested 320 grams from a 4 month grow, 1.4 grams a watt, out of this room and have also gone .87 grams per watt in the 4 months. Average is give or take...a gram a watt. Genetics make a big difference here.
-Time is a 4 month grow. 2 months of 18/6 light and 2 months of 12/12.
-I do not really touch the plants. From seed to harvest, I do not top them or pick leaves off. Doing a lst or sog or scrog or...will yield more, but takes longer. To me...whatever.
-I made the frame. Am on my 4th grow with it, had it a while.

Yield weight...perhaps not the most important thing.

Jeepster, thanks a million for this info!!!

I think I'll make my own frame as well unless timber can custom make one for me. I just called them but they are closed.

Yield ain't to important for me either since this is for personal medicinal growth, but since am planning to do this once a year in order to have enough for the rest of the year - 0.87 GPW sounds good to me!!! more than what I need!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of carbon filter do you use? does it control 100% of the smell with tent closed? I bought a 4" x 20" Phresh Filter Lo-pro and a Hurricane 4" 171cfm. I think this will be enough... what do you think?

You use soil?

thanks again mate,

Sorry for the slow reply...

Here is a pic of the top of my tent.
4 inch fan/filter.
That fan has a speed control on it mostly set to slow. The filter DOES handle all the smell. It is really a cool thing, to know you have a "skunk" right there and not smell a thing out of the tent.

Thanks for the info Sir!

Is that a 4" fan with a 4" filter? Whats the cfm rated for. I know my fan is a 4" Hurricane and Phresh Filter is 4" x 20". Am hoping this is enough since the tent is only 35cu feet. The Filter is for 120 cfm and the fan is 171cfm, with a small speed controller which will be kept in low almost always I assume.

Am just worried because I live in an apartment (alone no roomates), I know its a small grow but I try and not take risks without making sure everything works like its suppose to.

I thank you for your help my friend!

Yes, a 4x10 inch filter and a 4 inch fan. I have a brother who is a Federal agent, he does not smell/know this tent exists.
It is a small but tall tent. Its strength is how tall it is. I use it to grow that, not the bushy stuff.
I grow in a flood and drain, ebb and flow hydro system. In winter(now) I can also use bubble buckets. I live where there is a winter...my current crop is turning purple(I think that is temp related???)

This is what is in the tent today...
Dogbud. At 3 weeks flower. Not going to yield heavy But will "kill".

I guess am now convinced that carbon filters do work if your bro is a fed and doesn't notice, lol! ;)

Your filter is 4x10 mine is 4x20, this mean it will last double?

How many times have you replaced it until you start smelling some odor?

I think I might try Hydro next grow, but to nerdy for me right now. Soil will do!

Am assuming you like to grow sativa strains, since they get tall, one of the reasons I also bought this tent (extension is nice to). Am doing the same with sativa strains for this upcoming grow > Sour Diesel, GirlScout or Super Silver Haze. Might also do one small indica for my insomnia treatment.

I'll try and make a small journal for this grow. We'll see...

Thanks again for the tips! this has really helped!!!
