There's so much misinformation out there about LED grow lights and light spectrums.


This guy has the most consistent content on it.

What spectrum do you have running on your quantum board and why?

My pick is 3000k + 660nm Far Red for both veg and flowering.

Samsung 3000K White LEDs – 140 per Light Bar
Samsung 5000K White LEDs – 140 per Light Bar
660nm Deep Red LEDs – 15 per Light Bar

because it kicks ass.

He has videos showing side by side what happens to plants growing under different LED light spectrums with the EXACT same environment.

Then he explains in detail why each plant grew the way it did under each light spectrum.

There are probably other people doing this type of experiment but he is one that has gained my trust.

That seems to be the setup most big commercial grow light companies are putting on their boards.

It's probably not a big difference, but from what I've researched it seems all 3000k + 660nm red diodes would be even better because the 3000k temperature (and of course the red diodes) are perfect for flowering and there's enough light in the rest of the spectrum in it to also be great for vegetative growth.

What do we want? the BEST flower... so this would be a setup that aims to optimize towards that goal.

What I'm saying is the 5000k diodes are OK but not optimal for flowering.
And the difference for the vegetative stage would be minimal.

Now, I'm not even entirely sure how much of a difference the 18 or so far red diodes (660nm wavelength) in a board with 300 or so white diodes really makes on the final results of the crop.

Maybe it would be even better to go for all 3000k. But I've never seen a model with all 3000k - all have the red supplementation.

I know a guy in china that sells QB's for a great price with the best diodes in the market (Samsung LM301H - the "H" in it is for Horticulture. This means Samsung made a light that's designed to achieve the best performance when growing plants indoors).

The thing is this guy only has them in one spectrum at the 3500k temperature.

It's great too and would be good for both veg and flower, but it seems that adding red in flower does increase bud quality overall.

That might have to do with the fact cannabis, in certain places of the world flowers in a time of year when sunlight has more red in it.
But... is it true then that all cannabis could benefit from more red light during flower stage?
If anyone knows about this, I'd love to learn more.

Also the red diodes seem to be less efficient than the white ones. That should also be considered when seeing which is optimal for highest yield and best overall quality.

Right now I think 3000k + 660nm far red light is the sweet spot. Or maybe all 3000k. Still not quite sure.

Well that clears everything up. :sleep::hump::cuss: I'll play this video for my plants tomorrow so maybe they will start liking my LED lights. They sure perk up for my energy wasting halides. I'm still trying to save energy with some led's. When I use half led's and half halides only half of my room is happy.

Run a 654 diode lm301 board. Has a mix of 3000k, 5000k, 660nm and 740nm.

Pretty sure there is 4 IR diodes and 32x660nm diodes, and the rest is an even split of 3000k/5000k.

If I had my way I'd run straight 3500k diodes with a few IR and UV diodes thrown in there the whole run through.

I run 3500k QBs ( 304s OG boards still ) with Citizen 3500k COBS … QB 304s are the first gen 2015 and have had ZERO PROBLEMS .
Also QB 96s with Agromax UV pure uv / 10000k finisher lamp .
Also QB288 prototypes with Full CRI90 duals (3000k )
Single QB288 4000k supplemental 135w
Extra 288 boards ( 3000k )
and even a G8 bloom RED ONLY 630-660nm led lamp.

Consensus seems 3000k-4000k …
