What? How am I flinging Kool-Aid?
well coke, looks like we need to do some research on cob vs I guess what we own. what do ya call it? Traditional led? I'm with you man, I just want to pull out a credit card and order something somebody who knows what they are doing has already made and everybody says is good. I see an ad is flashing on the bottom of my screen for a Spider COB.

Over simplify much? You still need to shop for and gather all the parts and tools, research how to build one, put it together. Fix it down the road if you make a mistake...so on and so forth.

Have you ever bought a sandwich? Did you know you could make one cheaper yourself, and it's easier than strapping on your velcro shoes.

To each their own. If you want to make your own, great. Don't bash me for buying one. And don't talk shit because I like it.

There are plenty of commercial growers using main stream LEDs from the companies mentioned with great results.

Does anyone have any input on the lights in the video, or are there only people here intent on hijacking the thread?

The spider cobs aren't super popular around here. Better off with mars TBH.

Blurple. Just call them Blurples bro. I recently added HPS to my grow and now supplement with the Blurple LEDs. My LEDs are really old, but I figure they were good ones at the time I bought so they probably throw off a few good photons the plant might like. So. Point is maybe, combine different types of light. Anyway. Sometimes I wonder if we just get caught up in these fads, from the hype of it all. I honestly don't need a light or to improve my grow at all. But, there's always that little urge that wants you to try something different.

Reminds me. I got eBay and other stuff waiting on me at the house. Yay! I love to order stuff online and have it delivered to my door. lol. Gonna be a good weekend.

my clw isn't very popular around here either, but it grows pot, just like my mh/hps did. And unless somebody can convince we otherwise, I am just going to buy another one, same brand, same model.
Your money, if you want to pay more for less, that's your prerogative. They'll work, no doubt. Even incandescent bulbs will grow buds if you get enough of them, probably dank buds with the right gardner.

If you're just after 'what works' why not T5 for much less? Very proven platform.

Just sayin.

I like this because I think it sums up the situation well. 'Who the fuck knows'! There seems to be too many people on here arguing for one type over another, when I suspect that very few even know!
I took the time to learne about and build my own COB light. I'm proud that I did and I found the process involved in the build very rewarding. Last night I made dinner at home. Tonight I might order in.

Even the epistar datasheets will tell you that the efficiency of some of those red leds is less than 10%.

The reason most people insist on white (aka full spectrum) cobs is because the efficiency ranges from 40-65% depending on the flux bins and how hard they're driven. This is a no brainier for anyone with some common sense.

With an efficiency 35% or below, it becomes very hard to justify upgrading from HPS in the first place. If given the choice between an expensive 10% efficienct epistar panel and a cheap 34% efficient 400W hps, only a moron would go the epistar route.

i think the understanding of how and why cannabis and plants in general process energy had led to the independent research of cobs and that understanding how much energy is exchanged is what should matter most in your light choice and this is why cobs are here to stay

Don't be hating on @SomeGuy... he's the very reason I got into DIY COB-crafting, which gave way to Heaven Bright. His fence post design was intended to save money, produce quality bud, and was overall brilliant in my eyes.

@bicit - Thank you for the kind mentioning. To add to the conversation, HB is currently open for sale, so Optic isn't the only COB-infused fixture producer out on the market.

If any of you we're wondering why there are hardly any pictures on the website for the Model-V fixtures, it's because I decided it would be best to open early before any name brands steal the show; I'll have photos of some, if not all, the Models uploaded next week, with a video or two!

Stay tuned and keep growing, folks!
Wow! Talk about shameless self promotion.

Could you guys please take your COB circle jerk somewhere else. How many COB company owners are in this thread. At least two...please move on. Or post a similar reputable comparison video on your lights...oh, wait, you cant.

Stop hijacking and make your own thread.

Did anyone even watch the video? Or did you just come to rant about COB?

Anyone care to comment on the topic of the thread?

I'm not interested in marketing to consumers. I have no dog in this show :P

I did, I found it extraordinarily uninformative. According to their video, HPS bulbs should be crap. However typically they're stellar performers in the hands of a decent Gardner.

Look I agree and hence one of the reasons I built my own. It just gets tiresome reading these arguments when I suspect that so many people really don't know (not aimed at anyone in particular). I've only grown with Blurple and COB, but I still don't think I can say one is better than the other. Maybe my Blurple was shit one? Fact is I'm not sure and I bet there are a bunch of others here in the same boat but are willing to swear blind for one light over another.

From what I've read COBs are the most efficient and are at the leading edge of technology. I like that and that's why I have this light, but maybe I'd be better off with an HID in my space, meh.

Not until you blurple shills start admitting on your own that your blurple epistar panels are inadequately cooled, overdriven to the max, overpriced, generate a ton of heat, and never seem to beat HPS when comparing watt for watt of dissipation.
