Led Grow Light Build, Best Option Led Strips or Cob Lights Maybe this one BXRC-35E10K0-C-73-SE

Good Day

So i am going round and round about my options, i have been looking at getting a 1000w hps for a 5x5 grow tent but then im from South Africa and it gets hot here in the summer it can get past 40 degrees celsius most days of the summer, so i have been thinking about doing leds rather even through the leds are much more expensive.

I have been looking at a lot of peoples led builds and the led strip builds, and i was going to build a 600w samsung led strip rig with 3 drivers to start with , as i see it the samsung led strip i think it is the f series 3500k ones 50w each 4 of those on a mean well 7 amp 240 watt driver and 3 of those drivers for the 12 strips, all of those mounted on a aliminium bracket.

But then i started looking at bridgelux and see that bridge lux is way cheaper but the lumens per watt is less, so i saw the bridgelux cob leds, by my calculations the following model cob led is 116 watt and is really cheap, if i take lets say 10 of these BXRC-35E10K0-C-73-SE that will be 1160 watt total and 170 000 lumens and i can then run lets say 5 drivers 2 cobs per driver.

I like the option of using more lower amp or wattage drivers, if one of them goes then not everything is down at once and the driver is then cheaper to replace as well.

If you are looking to keep price down, stay with hid. A few 315 lec's would probably produce more for you than led, at a much cheaper price.

A few? He's trying to beat the heat.

Produce more than what LEDs, run at what wattage? And why do you think that CMH will produce more than an appropriately sized LED fixture?

I was talking about watt for watt purchase price. Heat is another story but 1200w of led is 1200w of any lighting. I would replace 1000w hps with 2 315's or a single 630

I respect your opinion but not your advice concerning the cancer lights.

HID, MH, CMH will be banned of the market in 2022.. phillips has already notifed that they will stop the production of this kind of light before 2022.. use and advice the past if you want.

Thanks, what do you think about these cobs? and is my calculations correct are they 116watts each? wouldnt they overall be beter then led strips, i can buy a 1100 watts of them instead of led strips of 600w for the same price that is if my calculations are correct.

Did you figure the cost of heat sinks? going to take a good heatsink to cool 116 watts. 146 lm a watt vs 168 lm a watt for the strips.

What kind of heatsinks would i be looking at? pc heatsink with fan on it? something like that

I have a couple of them lying around thinking if i can do 400w of the strips and 400w of the cobs onto 4 pc heatsinks mounted to the frame of the led strips with fans on the pc heatsinks ofcourse.

There's an added cost for fans, separate power supply to drive the fans. It will cost you about the same price as the cobs to cool that 116 watts.
You need to do one or the other. 116 watt cob will need to be father away from your plants than a strip light.

Get a fucking grip. Those are all naturally occurring trace elements, not fucking nuclear reactor products. Christ.

Thanks, then i will maybe be doing a frame in frame that can lower, the cobs in the middle frame that slides into the other frame so the 2 can be lowered seperately can maybe work, but i guess i will get the same affect with the led strips that i will get with the cobs and the led strips will be running cooler.

Your choice, they both will work. The f-stips give you more total lumen output simply by the number of diode compared to the influx with less diode but the influx are a little more efficient.

Also I don't see drivers available from your digikey, all I see are the meanwell HDD series available. No HLG series so you'll have to find drivers elsewhere.

The 240H-48A will power 5 of the 44" strips in parallel, that will give you 1 amp to each strip
The 240H-24A will power 6 or 7 of the inFlux strip, in parallel, 6 would get you 1.66 amps for each strip and 7 would be 1.46 amps per strip.

Thanks for the info what would you suggest how should i run them, if i run them at 1 amp per stip that will not be at full power totally? Is it better that way
