Leaf Structure: 3 Fingered, Single Fingered ...

I am looking for information on leaf structure...

Why do plants produce low numbers of fingers in their leaf structure (ie, they start producing 3 fingered leaves and 1 fingered leaves)?

genetics, hormones, and other factors.

where do you want to begin?

Got a picture?

Sometime it can be the strain. All 3 of my BNC Diesel did the same kind of thing. Single leaf, 3 left and then 5 leafs
Kind of freaky.

sativas, because of the climates they grow in, are more likely to have thinner or less bladed leaves. indicas are the opposite.

light cycles trigger hormones within the plant, which can lead various leaf blade patterns.

hovering, you have just opened up a can of shit worms.

remember the goal is to have as many fingers as possible so i dont usually take low leaf lobe level as a good thing.
but it really has to do with the relation of cytokine produced in roots to the number of branching/cola growing sites. often i can take a day up to a few weeks for a plant to leave this pattern depends on how long it takes for the plant to provide hormones sufficiently to all the grow sites.
another reason for single/triple lobed leafs is during flowering almost all energy and hormone production is focused flowering so often leaves are grown quickly and small, even get some double or 4 lobe leafs.

HA! Excellent. Let's discuss.

OK. Some are new sativa strains I am running that are showing this leaf structure right from germination in 1 gallon test pots. Their children, vegging in 10 gallon smart pots, are also showing this minimal leaf structure, so this sounds like a case of genetics from the heavy sativa side of things.

What I am questioning is long time staple of our garden, a hybrid strain ( Pink! = Purple Kush x Sour Diesel ) that got tweaked out while I experimented with 12-1 Gas Lamp lighting last turn. The strain seems to have changed, putting off single and triple leaves now, plus it seems to have a permanent higher hormone level but I may be crazy on that... The clones coming from these new, post Gas Lamp, plants are unlike the original mothers (pre Gas Lamp). They all are just back on 18-6 and I am wondering if the plant is permanently changed? Or if it is just stressed and will revert back towards the original structure and genetic look over time.

I run BotaniCare at 75% strength, pH ~5.9, Sunshine Mix4 soil + Perlite for medium. Supercropping and LST, sometimes topped (which could indicate what polyarcturus is talking about)...

OK. That just threw a whole lot of special situation into my question just to keep it interesting.

Insights? Thanks!

This post is based off my experience only -

if the plant is really stressed that will cause 3 fingers. weak genetics are the leading cause though if your plant is happy and healthy.
also revegging a plant can cause all the leaves to be 1 and 3 fingered.

clones are not genetically identical, using different arrangement of lights and hormones levels change the cuttings that are being made as they are fresh new young impressionable cells that if seperated from original source can show small pheno typical changes. 3 leaves diploidal, the downside to this is eventually you can come across ba traits from fucking with the balance of nature, false seed pods, viral infections, hermi, inability to branch blah bla blah anyways i have been cloning for a long time and i have a widows(s) clones and clones of clones that are 3 years old. i have been cloning from the same 2 orgional widows for a long time. i select the best clone as a mother and bring out the best pheno typical traits. clones are amazing and are easily manipulated with proper knowledge.
