Leaf edge curling why???

Sup King? I like reading your threads and I totally agree we need a stickied, well researched, with pix, guide to nute def and toxicity thread. It's sooo much work but if you wanna help me with it I am off from work in the winter and have the time to do that kind of research. It will be a hard data/science based study that can be referenced by all of our members so (ostensibly) we will not be inundated with the same questions over and over and over. Anywho....I just wanna throw this up which comes from a well respected member of our little community. It is about leaf cupping and I hope it solves some probs for someone, nonetheless it's great to read.

Heres a link thats pretty complete and very helpful...... http://www.greenmanspage.com/guides/plant_abuse.html

My outdoor plants experience both canoe and taco curling but the tacos turn down when it is extremely hot and dry and the canoes just showed up cause it has been raining like mad here. Although it is most likely the temp/humidity and massive rainfall, I've found if I overwater the plants they will switch from taco to canoe. If the taco is nitrogen charged flushing it seems to work but I'm not sure if all downward tacos are nitrogen poisoning. The canoes flatten out in about 3 days if it stays hot and humid and no massive storm.

God damn you Dannyboy, i read UB's threads before but didnt pay attention to this, looks like i was right in the beginning thinking that leaf edge/margin (not tip) could be from over ferts. Again Damn you!lol! Now i need a new conclusion and that is

''Not only dose leaf margin curl happen because of environmental factors such as heat, humidity etc etc but it can also be the start of too many ferts or salts in the soil causing the osmotic factor to reverse in order to equal out''

So it is true then, too much ferts/salts can show up symptoms the same as humidity and heat sometimes?? I suspected this but could find no refrence and then its staring me in the face, i guess the thread goes on!lol!

And yer we do need new stickies for def problems, i was more hoping for simple but accurate leaf pictures rather than a detailed guide, these previous def charts are totally useless but now and again i see a pic that totally sums up a certain deficiency, just wish we could have a chart that showed each leaf in each different stage of a deficiency, all other things leave us somthing to discuss on the forums but everyone must know by now that those def charts kill more plants than they save

''After looking at the def chart i first thought i had magnesium deficiency but after adding magnesium in the correct dosage for 4 weeks the symptoms are still getting worse''

Dose this sound familiar!lol!

But im not the right man to do this with, you need a total pro, its got to be spot on, well edited and pictured as well as more helpfull than all the previous charts. I know it can be done but no one dose it, would have to have tons of plants and hold back on one single nute per plant to get the desired def to show on the leaves. I keep badgering Potroast to get his old age ass into gear and make it happen or find someone to do it but alas i am still waiting. Constant therads like this one and others are the only way i can get through all the info and different opinions till this chart appears. Peace

1. Over-fertilizing - the most common cause of leaf cupping aka leaf margin rolling, leaf margin burn, and leaf tip curl/burn is the overzealous use of too much plant food in relationship to factors such as plant size, vigor and rate of growth. The first unit of a plant to show moisture stress is the leaf at its margins and/or tips, reflected by margin rolling (cupping) or burning. Sometimes copper colored necrotic spots show in the leaf also. A hard, crispy feel to the leaf frequently occurs as well, as opposed to a soft and cool feel of a happy leaf. When you have a high concentration of salts in solution (or in the root medium) compared to lower salinity levels found in the plant’s tissue, water is actually drawn out of the plant across the root gradient in order to fix the ppm imbalance. IOW, this is a natural, osmotic response that serves to equalize salinity levels on both sides of the root’s epidermal gradient. Back off on the amount and/or frequency of plant food. Too much plant food can also burn the roots, especially the sensitive root tips and hairs, which then creates another set of problems such as nutrient deficiencies. A note for the bio folks - as soil dries, the concentration of the remaining salts rises further exacerbating the problem. Leach (flush) your pots once in a while to get rid of excess salts.

Thanks Uncle Ben.

Good point dude, taco (leaf margin curl) could be from excess Nitogen bud canoe might be too much watering and also too many ferts, it dosent get any easier from here. Read the thread and see if any of it seems relevant to your plants, try to work out what works and what makes it worse and maybe the answer lies there somewhere allbeit interelated with environmental and other factors. Peace

Burn this link, i hate getting thses charts posted, yer they help the new grower a little but i been staring at them for years and just plain and simply hate them and see no relevance to growing weed. I dont hate every chart, Mandalla seeds just updated their def chart and it is simple, beautiful and straight to the point, also i found a cal/mag chart on the web ages ago and think it sums up cal/mag pretty well-

Heres the mandala seed def chart, notice they only have 5 pics for the whole chart, think they identify that other charts are just too confusing and only wana push the basic which they do extremly well-

You new growers are making it more difficult then it really is. Trying to figure out the finer points of cultivating cannabis before you can successfully grow a marigold. Burn that in your minds...........the chart I supplied gives almost everything you need to know for a nice grow. You actually have to read the words, not just look at the pictures... You know why growers call it 'praying' for magnesium? The plant is telling you lets to nip it in the bud(pun intended)before the deficiency shows up like the pictures you all seem to enjoy looking at so much. If you would stop listening to the hype and start reading your plants, most issues could easily be avoided.......

You have a point, i however can grow but seek to make diagnosis easier, what else am i suppose to do inbetween harvests!lol! Suprising to see that most soils and ferts will give you some kind of yeild, mainly it is the grower who causes problems like you say worrying about the finer points of cultivation.

I need to maximize my yeilds and plants as i grow in a small space, 10 plants in 75cmx 75cm x 1.2m high grow box. I have to start a plant most weeks and keep it continuous to maximize light, i basically wouldnt fit that many in if they were all at the same stage, im lucky if at harvest my plants reach 30cm after the topping, lst and constant pinching and bending through veg. I am just about to knock my veg time back from 4 weeks to 3 as they are getting a little too big by flower start.

Growers can take what they want out of these threads, theres no misinformation here just friendly talk, if they fail its their fault not mine. Me personally i will always trawll through the finer points of marijuana cultivation and problems till either someone makes better stickies or i start geting zero problems what so ever.

I have always posted in these forums as this is where the greatest discussion on plant problems and def's are, if you know of a thread that makes the finer points easier and more distinguishable then point me in the right direction dude. peace

Out of intrest after learning pH i feel no reason to go back over it, this topic is always right in my grow, i feel i know all the finer points to pH in soil or so i think.

I would be thinking about your plants roots and possible issues they may be having if I were you........

I still just rely on dolomite and worm castings for my pH control...rock on KG......and the Greenmans pages is as complete and easy to follow as they come. Its where all of the spin offs(copy/paste/edit)that have been passed around forever originate. Its a very complete and correct link...........

Yep pH is the easiest one i think once you know what your doing, damn thing took a long time to learn though. I always subscribe to keeping it simple even if it gets technical its only to make future grows simpler and dialled in.

Dannyboy try pm'ing potroast and ask him about a def chart, maybe he got some resources or can offer help in some way, i am useless here but we do desperatly need a def chart that makes it easier rather than leading people towards total confusion!lol!

Funny story, a small airborn seed blew in from outside and settled on my soil in one of my pots, i didnt really give it any ferts or water but it grew to be better looking and less problematic than my weed plants with all the attention they seem to get, what a kick in the teeth by mother nature!lol! Peace

Aw damn my laptop dont have the relevant java app to play the 9 peice puzzle game at the bottom.

This chart seems aimed at kids a bit, im a gona print this off, give my son some soil and seeds and tell him not to come back till hes grown at least 2 pounds of pot!lol! Peace

KG is still a toolbag I see. Keep chasing your 'runoff' bro...

Haha, chasing runoff was a mistake i made 4 months ago now but i quickly learnt otherwise, now that i remember wasnt it you and a couple others who put me right? Best info i ever got on this site i think. Peace

Sorry dude when i went to plant nutrition at home it was like a kids site with colouring book and all. The guide is good like a lot of others i just seek the ultimate guide, i doubt ther is or will ever be a guide that grows plants for me but dont dash my hope i gotta have some dreams. peace
