Laying clone pots on their side

I have a very low headroom space for rooting my clones. I usually use the red, plastic cups filled with mostly perlite with a little soil mixed in to keep the perlite from floating every time I water. But the clones are growing quickly and I'm running out of headroom.

I was thinking about just laying the cups on their sides and allowing them to grow that way for awhile. Eventually, when the flowering tent is available again, I will switch the lighting schedule back to veg and put the sideways clones in there.

I could either keep them in the sideways orientation, or I could pot them with the stem vertically oriented and allow them to grow out of it.

Anyone does something similar?

Advice? Comments?

Thanks
