Lived in Victoria and chilled in Van a few times. Great places to be if you love weed.

From my understanding, by Canadian law is 6 plants and up = Jail
Mandatory minimum sentences would apply - Harpers legacy

http://cannabisdigest.ca/mandatory-minimum-sentences-for-marijuana/

"The jail term is six months if six to 200 plants are produced for the purpose of trafficking and increases to nine months if factors are present."

"If someone is convicted of the offence of trafficking or possession for the purpose of trafficking, and the amount of cannabis (or cannabis-based products) weighs over three kilograms, (6.6 pounds) the mandatory jail terms apply. Keep in mind, edible makers, that the entire weight of your product will count—not just the weight of the actual cannabis used in the product."

... Cultivation of Marijuana
(i) 6 mos. if there are between 6-200 plants and the production is for trafficking; (ii) 9 mos. for between 6-200 plants, the production is for trafficking and any of the following apply: (a) you use real property that belongs to a third party to commit the offence; (b) the production could endanger the security, health or safety of minors at or close to the offence location, (c) the production constitutes a potential public safety hazard in a residential area, or (d) you set or place a trap, device or other thing that is likely to cause death or bodily harm to another person in or close to the offence location, or permit such a trap, device or other thing to remain or be placed in that location or area (iii) 1 yr. for between 201-500 plants; (iv) 18 months for between 201-500 plants and any of the factors (a through d, in italics, above) apply; (v) 2 yrs. for more than 500 plants, or (vi) 3 yrs. for more than 500 plants if any of the factors (a through d, in italics, above) apply

If everyone grew only 5 plants......

I imagine if you grow 1 for the purpose of trafficking, you will get your 6 months minimum.

Key things to probably take note. You must own your property, you must have 5 and under plants, not near any schools or daycares etc, don't have kids living on the property, do NOT set traps or deterrents, don't cause endangerment and sure as hell don't sell the shit.

Some other interesting things happening in Canada. Recently medical cannabis patients were ruled in favor by the courts to be able to use marijuana in other forms other then just the flower. This now, has LP's working on licencing and testing for products such as oil/shatter/butter/crumbles/topicals/edibles. Currently dispensaries are already doing this, albeit illegally. A licensed legal patient such as myself, can buy/consume/carry marijuana in all its forms currently.

Also to note is the court case involving medical patients and their licenses to grow, I do believe is still ongoing. This case will be exciting to follow, as it will determine the fate of being able to grow your own medicine in Canada under medicinal license once again.

Also we currently have the change in government administration who is more relaxed on the topic and more in tune with the current generation, who have clearly time after time, have shown to approve decriminalization and possible legalization.

We have current pressure brewing from our southern neighbors who are taking more progressive stance and sometimes outright legalizing it in some states.

The other biggest issue at hand, is the risk of synthetic copycat drugs that mimic or claim to mimic cannabis. These drugs are synthetic chemically made, sprayed onto leaf foliage, packaged and labeled brands such as K2, are coming from countries like China. These drugs are having serious ill effect on larger populations in the states and is now causing concern due to it's ability to cause death. The biggest reason for it's appeal, which has also been spotted recently in Alberta's Oilpatch... is the fact that you can pass a piss test.

I can only pray that we legalize, and properly handle cannabis. Stop the madness :)
