And I should make a correction. We do have local varieties that can keep up with the popular mainland stuff. It's just not the classics of old.
On Maui we've got Skunkdog and variations of Skunkdog, Pog, HP13, Japanese Hashplant, Dog, The Blood and some other well known ones here. Any of those are great and would be way better to grow than Pua Mana/aaagrean/mauifire/Hawaii420427 gear and generally cheaper to acquire

FWIW I am laughing my ass off at the guys who say they can tell a strains genetics from looking at the leaves!
Or rubbing the stem of a small vegging plant and proclaiming "That's Kush!"
