Knowing How To Dry The Plant

I agree with Thundercat. That's similar to what I always do and works great.
A lot of us do the simple and lomg dry because weve tried everything else and this is the best.

Despite splfreaks humidoty he hangs for two weeks.

I say its time to stop this five day wet jar and burp till dry bs and show the newer growers how its been done by pros for the last decade here :-)

Hey Kinggrow1 you and thundercat and others gave some great and easy to follow directions to someone looking for it.there is a lot of fear and uncertainty in their first grows and you guys understand that.I got similar advise back in 1980 from an old grower after stressing for 2 years over drying and curing, even then they had crazy theories. It has worked for me since then. I'm new to R.I.U. and just started growing again 5 years ago after about 15 years away.and found a lot of B.S. when I first came here.Refreshing to hear you guys Thank You.even if we don't agree on everything all the time( don't know one way or the other but few people do) much respect to you guys The gentleman will benefit a lot and stress will be relived from your advise.Keep up the great work guys.just though I would comment.

Thanks, im actually quite a nice guy and cover most basics like set up light heat hermies trifoliates seeds and dry and cure over the time here so you have some easy info whilst trying to decipher the rest.

Hey ive fucked up my dry once or twice, all info requires some trial and error to get right but none should be thqt hard, certainly easier than stressing with the other stuff.

The end of the day im just a grower, nothing should be too dis-similar to other growers who have spent the tine to learn it all :-)

Thank you sir! I've spend years with trial as error and reading. There has been some great guys here on RIU over the years that have helped me along the way so I try to offer the same!

"Up to" two weeks with sog/heavily vegged plants, I'll start checking smaller buds a week in, not trimming sugar leaves on sogged plants can really extend the dry time.

Fwiw guys, at an early point i was also a victim of thinking the dry/cure was a multiple step one time process, that wasn't it.

For me, the harvest quality was all in the drying method, before my bud is ever stored/cured it should have a dank smell & is smokable with flavor, if not i did something wrong during flowering.

Fuck it ill go too lol

Chop the plant, trim off the big fan leaves & hang it whole for 10-14 days depending on bud size & keep it at @ 65f/50% rh.

put a fan near it to oscillate in the drying area, make sure not a single bud gets hit with direct air and don't use anything with an odor anywhere near your buds.

I don't even dry trim anymore lmao...

yep this is where I have gotten too also... I grow all organic no nutes or anything and the sugar leaves I have are frosty AF (as the kids say lol) so I rarely chop them off either..... I started with all the wet trimming BS and bovedas and all that... I eventually got this method from sheer laziness... and it actually makes my bud taste and smoke BETTER... so much over thinking in this hobby lol

I mean, don't get me wrong if you actually sit there and trim the leaves off a fully dried nug it will usually smoke/taste better, just not significantly enough for me to chop them off if im smoking by myself.

I really enjoy the flavors alot of different genes have to offer as I've grown to stoner status with gdp/cherry pie/real ogk ect years and years before i even grew.

15-20 years ago it blew my mind that a sack of gdp could taste like grape candy, don't even get me started on cherry pie lol, i pretty much chased flavor/quality from then on.

@cock roach, it all comes down to how you intend to use it.

If you are smoking it, then you have your answer from the people who have already posted.

But, if you are going to extract it, in my experience humidity only matters if there is money involved.
Because higher humidity (to a point) can artificially bump up the extract quantity.
This also depends on the extraction method as well, with rosin pressing having the most benefit from added humidity.

This doesn't mean higher humidity yields more oil, it just means higher humidity has more water in the extract so the yield "appears" larger and thus can sell for more.

So, if you are going to extract it and it's for personal use, then let that shit dry out!!!

See on the flip side of that I really like extracts made with fresh frozen flowers. You can get amazing flavor! At least if you've got nice flower to start with :).
@Thundercat,
I have never tried making an extract with fresh flowers, I have always been worried that the extra water would effect the decarbing process or make the extraction process longer than it needs to be, due to all the extra water that would have to evaporate off.

I suppose if I didn't decarb before hand, then after the alcohol was removed, I raised the temp to like 300-320 and let the oil steep while the water evaporated off this would do the same thing.
Here is a video Rick Simpson suggests, that says heating the extract (once the alcohol has evaporated) to 316F will create like 90% decarboxylation.

It's worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Once again you are being a jerk. Lighten up man. Think back when you first started growing you didn't know shit about it either. So fuck you shit head ….
