So, i originally decided that i wasn't going to journal my first grow, and wait til i started in the fall with some actual genetics, but instead, i decided i would rather have this to reflect on (though i dont yet know how active this journal will be). To start, some details....

Soil: Germed in Jiffy Seedstarting Mix, inside a smaller jiffy pot. transplanted at one week into their current containers (varying sizes at this time, had to make due on a budget). After transplant, the soil makeup was about 50% MG Organic, 30% seed starting mix, and another 20% perlite. Definitely know that next time around iam using FFOF as my main medium intead of the MG.

Lights: due to heat issues, i currently could only use a Fluoro option. For now, i am running a 4ft 6-Fixture T5HO setup from Hydrofarm (pushes out around 25,200 lumens for less than 340 watts, but is VERY low heat). during the first 2 weeks of veg, they were within about 3-5 inches of the plants, now iam bringing them up a little more to promote a little more stretching. The thriver of my three seedlings is already at 4 or 5 nodes, and barely 3 inches tall. current distance at time of this writing is about 6 inches from plant.

Ventilation: incredibly poor. using two household boxfans to move air around, and it is working ok for now. keeping temps around 75 (ambient) and 79-80 (radiant). i also use the closet door (that was removed for this operation) to block light from the plants during lights out, and to regulate temp when it isnt staying warm or cool enough.

Ferts: At the moment, i have a bottle of FF Big Bloom, but thinking i might need more after i switch my light cycle here in a week. Passed that, i dont have much experience with nutes so iam taking it very cautiosly so far. i also have a bag of epsom salt (recently experienced what i thought to be a Mag Def, though iam still not sure).

so the 3 first ones (seedlings with small first fan leaves) are the one that started out the fasted, the rest werent as fast growing so i didnt get early pics of them. the last 3 are all three of my babies. the one with signs of damage WAS the thriving one that shot out twice as fast as the others, and all ive done to it is treat it with some epsom water (signs kinda pointed me towards a Mag Def if i got it right i duno). the other 2 (left and right of damaged one) are the other 2 doing pretty well so far, but pretty dark green, starting to wonder if its the strain or a possible nute issue.

since those pics are only a few days old, i wont bother getting new ones of all of em, but i thought i would drop a few more pics of that damaged one, feel free to pm me with any ideas as to what you may think it is, as iam trying to keep posts in this thread to a minimum (other than my updates, though i never mind a post with +rep or even just positive feedback =D).

so, heres some more shots of the damaged one, am i right to think this is Magnesium and possibly a little bit of heat (like i said temps arent always easy to control):

ALRIGHHTTTTT im here for the grow! okay , yeah def switch to ffof next time : ) . i was looking at your prob but being that im on my first grow kinda too , i couldnt diagnose it. unless your temps are constantly above 85 it shouldntb be heat , and i have some of those high output t5's. they can get pretty close to the canopy without creating a burn on the plant. you should post some of those pics in plant problems to get that sorted out. my first first grow was a bagseed from skywalker kush that i got ... but it turned out to be male! looking forward to your journal!lfdfkgjalkdg .

thanks welcome to my journal! i made a post early on in the symptoms and it was a bit too early to tell, and now ive just been so busy, my girls have barely gotten the attention they deserved, for example last night one plant for the first time since birth, showed signs of underwatering. as iam in the middle of a long dark cycle to adjust my 'daylight' hours to something more reasonable for the summer, when they come back on later they are starting the 12/12, lil earlier than planned but with a possible move in early august, i have to do this quickly, its more about getting one under my belt before i move than it is about getting a high yield. this way i know more about how i want to start at the new house with my actual good genetics, rather than this bagseed sativa.

ill have some fresh pics up tonight, and yes i will be starting a new thread on the problem plant tonight to see if the more exaggerated signs trigger an answer from anyone. its still seeming more than likely that i wasnt thorough enough with that pots soil mixing, and now its hitting hot spots of somesort. last water, added enough til the runoff was in the 20% at least. might just need another flush or 2 to really de-nute the soil.

so came back after a brief break from home, and found the problem that i though was subsiding, has come back in full swing, and the situation is looking dire indeed (i just went to flowering due to time constraints). Heres my 3 babies as of today, the fist one used to be the strongest, now its lookin pretty sick =(

well its the end of its first day of 12 hours, and there has been little signs of improvement. i just went and flushed the soil just in CASE this was a nute lockout due to a salt buildup or ph issue. if she doesn't turn around soon i am afraid i may have killed off what started as the best one of the group =( all well like i said before this is all about learning this stuff now, so i can do it right the second time with good genetics. hell maybe even ill put that move off just so i can try again haha

its good that you flushed , it does kinda look like nute burn possibly. you didnt do anything different with that one? it was fed the same as the others?

sure was, same treatments. now this one since the beginning has also flourished twice as well than the others, which have had a day or 2 of stunting hold them back a bit, even now, you can tell the flourishing has ended and it is no longer the pride and joy i thought it would be =(

but for sure, all 3 have been treated the exact same since the beginning, except for Cheryl (the third pic) who has been doing fine enough so far to not even need to be transplanted out of its small clay pot (2 cups of soil?), kinda ridiculous. if i can get them to show sex in the next few days, they will all 3 be transplanted then. i might just transplant the bad one before it shows sex to see if it helps recoup, but that means i get to walk from the head shop (a block away) to my house with soil on my back, and the idea of my neighbors seeing me haul that soil inside doesn't sound too keen to me.

uhhh yeah if your doing an illegal op you need not bring soil in your house during the daytime lol. Thats really weird that one plant reacted differently than the others. Sounds like it could be some sort of a ph problem. My 3 blackjacks were doing great and then blackjack #2 which is my strongest started to show signs of frickin ph lockout! lol . i had to flush her and go through all sorts of worryin an stuff but after close care and flushes , and nute reductions ... shes back to growing as great as ever. You will pull through this just fine and when it comes time to grow the blackjacks ... your gonna know exactly what your doing. My first grow was 1 male skywalker kush that i found in a bag of dro ... lol. Im glad i grew it though so i could mess up on that and not my babys : ) . Keep it comin bud!

my thoughts exactly friend. i mean, iam legal and all, but i still don't want anyone seeing me haul that soil. there are too many prying eyes, too many thieves, and too many cops that will come and take my shit and ruin a crop just to 'verify quantity' which is their politically correct term for 'harass patients'.

good news is, today i found out the move has been put off for 6 months.....soooooooo i DO get to start the BJ's!! only i am working with limited space and at the time only the one light. so i get to wait until these show sex, and i think if i only get one female out of it, i might just top it and spend a few weeks bringing her back to veg, or even just throw the whole op out and start anew with the right soil, the right tools (ph meters), and a better mindset about it.

speaking of which, got any ideas on ph meters (both soil and water)? lookin for one that gets the job done well. now i wont say i am opposed to a 20 dollar electronic meter, but i also don't want to spend 20 and find out its shit and have to buy another in a week lol

humidifier has been running for about 9 hours now, and is holding my humidity at around 40 (up from 15-20 on avg). hoping this may help with the cupping, but still thinking the yellowing/frying is ocurring from the pH issue.

im in coco so im not sure about the ph meter. Have you already gotten generalhydro ph test solution? thatll be important. Yeah thats really low humidity. It makes it hard for the leaves to transpire moisture. I didnt even think about that possibly playing a role in your problem but it def could. hows the one recovering?

new leaves are looking ok, but who knows if they will show signs soon or not. when lights come back on tonight ill post some new pics. they have been on 12/12 for a few days now, crossin my fingers for some signs of sex soon.

you know, in a very weird way i almost hope they are all male so i can rip them out, and start my BJ's the right way! but, of course i don't want it and would love to see this run through to the end

same thing happend in my first grow man. I grew a skywalker kush seed i got in a bag and started my 3 blackjacks after the skywalker was already a month old. It turned out to be a male but before i knew for sure, was hoping it would grow balls so i could start clean with the girls. : )

picked up a few more supplies today in prepartion for trying to fix this issue (and in case they are females). got a bag of FFOF so i might not even need to nute again, a cheap soil test kit to see whats goin on there, and some CalMag Plus, to help what is a newly forming Calcium Def. Then again, if i transplant into the FFOF once i see sex, i might not even need the calmag, so iam kinda in a tough spot atm! got a few major decisions to make (like maybe i just want to abort them all and just start off right with my BlackJacks now lol)

mild update, it seems the last transplant i gave them (which i had a few issues with) definitely did shock them, it took 15 days of 12/12 before sex finally showed. and the news is..... ALL THREE are female. so much for starting those BJ, gunna have to wait a few months now.

one of them is slightly showing signs of being a hermi, but i wont be positive for a while, since i cant actually locate anything male, but definitely can locate some fem hairs (pistils/pistols?). a dose of cal mag seemed to clear up some of Adolfs issues, and the burning/damage seems to have stopped altogether, and since its brand new FFOF that they were transplanted into when i went to 12/12, i wont be doing much on the nute front either, though iam sure ill be using my lineup when the BJ's get transplanted into these pots for flower in 3 months (gunna try to reuse the soil at least once before i just toss it). Anyways, on to the pics. ill try to get some clearer ones soon, these were done rather hastily yesterday, and dont really show off the forming colas.
