so i have my growtent in a room that has no a/c or heat in it, pretty much just a concrete room off to the side. its about 5sq feet and i have a 250w Mh in it. im keeping the light on 24/7 right now b/c i just planted the seeds on the 26th and they just sprouted yesterday. my problem is at night, it hits about 60 in my growtent at the coldest point(so far) and its about 80-83 at the hottest point. what can i do to keep my temps up?

Well theres the usual, an oil column heater. If adding a heater is an issue, then best to try and keep your hot temperatures to never go over 77f during the day, and make sure your pots arent sitting on the concrete floor and add some CFLs which you switch on at night to add some extra light and heat.

I have a space heater that I got from walmart for a little more than $20 and it will keep the temps around 85 at a quarter of the power.

yeah i consider 77 my magic number
i like the cheap heaters at any big box retailer. if you get one with bright LEDs or a backlit readout, you may have mask it...the light from the LEDs in an otherwise dark room, may be enougth candlepower to mess off your flower cycle.

are just a couple of examples of the idea of radiant heat, w/o the light. And these links are just to illustrate, not point you to the best deal/brand/site.
You'll want to use them with a ceramic socket, just to be safe. The socket I have has a dimmer, which would essentially be a way to dial down the temp.
It's not as sexy as a new, super efficient heater with a digital readout, timer, thermostat, and whatever...but it will keep you warm and dark.
I'm pretty sure you can get them in higher wattages than just 60.

these heaters are specially designed to heat WATER, not air.
they'll work to keep your reservoir temps up, if you're running hydro, but I doubt they'd be either efficient or very effective in heating your tent.
That said, my knowledge of thermodynamics is poor. those fishtank heaters may work in your small area, but unless you have a bunch already laying about that you can just put to work for cheap, I think your bux are better spent elsewhere.
but if you go this way, before you just plug them in and let them bake in your tent, I'd make sure they'll even be safe to operate out of water...if their designed to have the water take the heat away from the glass tube the heating element is housed in (a fairly efficient process) removing that process may invite overheating and worst case: a fire.

I use a small360 heater if it gets real cold. I heat with wood in my house and the back room can get pretty nippy when the temp goes below 20 outside. I also use heating mat/pad from waterbeds. I put them under my containers making the soil nice and toasty. If you allow the soil or containers to become too cold it will retard the growth of your plants. Check out freecycle.org or craigslist for waterbed heaters. You can usually get them for free. Actually i get alot of stuff for free from freecycle. I have gotten most of my growing equipment from there at one time or another. Just put up a post saying that you want unwanted gardening supplies and list what you want. Its amazing the shit people will give you.
