Keeping it simple - Coco + Blumats

seems strange that your ph drifts in a non recirculating res. are you bubbling in there? could be causing dropout issues, thus changing the ph. i dont run bubblers but i do recirculate my res every hour so it gets aerated. my nutes are stable as hell. i dont even check anymore after mixing and it sits for a couple weeks in a 100 gal res

oh and ive been keeping my ph from 6-6.3 or else ive been having calmag uptake issues. not sure how people get by with lower ph in coco. causes me crazy issues

if you are talking to me, i haven't even purchased blumats. just asking. haven't flowered in peat/perlite either.

i don't have PH issues in my DWC tubs, only root rot :(

i'm gonna back out of this thread as i am semi off-topic. was just curious about blumats.

no i was talking to dave. if youre having root rot treat with 2ml bleach per gal every couple days. pearly white roots. bleach breaks down in aerated water VERY quickly and will have to be added back all the time. i use it in all hydro unless im using beneficials and most definitely in aero cloners. i think most failures with cloning are due to bad bacteria.

lol, i feel out of place in this thread, but since you brought it up. i am treating with h202 and pool shock. seems sucessful, but i will consider the bleach as i have a few infected plants left

thanks

I did put two air stones into the reservoir.

I was reading yesterday on growweedeasy to check the pH daily in the reservoir and fix accordingly.

I’m not bothering checking the PPMs any longer, as they do seem to hold steady. Just the pH issues now.

I was talking to one of the clerks at the hydro store the other day when I was picking up some botinicare Base nutrients, and he was saying that that was what he was using, along with some H&G Roots Excelurator, which I’ve been doing as well.

He said that he was also using some H&G Multi Zen, for ‘the enzymes’, which I have some too. But upon further thoughts have decided to not use it. Just want to keep this grow really simple.

That yellowing problem from earlier I decided to fix by adjusting the water, rather than adding additional Nitrogen.

That spot on my leave I now believe to be a pH fluctuation issue. Here is another picture of that. @Dr. Who , what do you think?

And WTF happened to @since1991?

I think these plants are just on the plus side of over watering, and that I can see this by the waffling of the leaves and the yellowish color.

Correct?

make sure you guys are doing heavy flushes with half strength nutes once in a while. i was having issues with really high runoff ppms but they still looked healthy for a long time. now my growth is crazy explosive
Can you expand upon this one a little bit.

Heavy flushes once in a while? 9 gallons per? Weekly? Monthly?

Where were you finding the high runoff PPMs? The initial runoff from a flush?

thats good what you are doing already. no need for the bleach with the pool shock. very similar

so i started having issues with bad coco. tested the runoff and it was over 2000 ppm. with blumats you dont get runoff so if your feeds are a little heavy it will gradually build up. been going through once a week and just pouring half strength nutes till the runoff runs clear and suck it out with a shop vac. could probably do without, i used to and didnt have issues. maybe it was just because of my bad coco but i figure its worth the extra effort as an added safety

My ph never changes either. I set it and forget it. All I do is top off with more ph'd nutes when it gets low. I also run at 6.0 ph and have no calmag issues but that's likely due to the nutes I use and the fact that calcium nitrate is used throughout veg and flower. Typically people have calcium issues with coco but with VitaGrow you won't because of the calcium nitrate.

You know what's strange is that I had three very successful grows using just the blumats and no additional watering or flushing. This last grow I ran some half strength nute to 10 - 20% runoff a few weeks into flower and had all kinds of issues. It was like I released the flood gates. I'm going back to what worked great for me and that's blumats all the way through the grow. I think the coco holds onto nutes and when I ran a bunch of nutes through I flushed it out and overfed my plants.

Not all coco is the same. Some needs to be rinsed. I have a 5 gallon bucket I drilled a bunch of holes in that I used to put the re-hydrated coco in and flush using a garden hose in the back yard. I've found that the Botanicare 5 kg coco bricks don't need to be rinsed and can be re-hydrated with half strength nute and you're good to go. One of the main issues people have with coco is using coco that hasn't been washed thoroughly and has a high amount of salt in it.

yeah it was super weird, the plants were looking healthy as all hell but the runoff was 1500 ppm lol. i figured i'd just do weekly flushes to negate buildup and also inoculate with beneficials

Kinda hard to see BUT, looks like an early Mg and some light Ca def.

As far as pHing hydro goes. Simply set the pH to 5.7 and let her rise to 6.2 and adjust back down... That zone is what "I" liked as my "safe" zone. Never had problems that way.

I see the new growth doesn't show that problem. That could be a somewhat common "blip in the road" growth issue. It ends to say that the problem passed.
Now IF it should come back, or increase. Add some Ca/Mg to your mix.
