Just Finished My Setup

So I just finished my set up...I germinated 23 seeds because I wasnt sure if they would all sprout but they all did. Im assuming the setup is not sufficient for all 23 but keep in mind I only plan on fully growing maybe 3 max. The lighting is 3 60w CFL's and one 24" 75 watt florescent light. The thing I rigged the CLF's up to still has the shade, I plan on cutting those off tommorrow to better expose the bulbs. Is the plant distance from the lighting okay? I coudlnt find space with all the plants to put a fan on the same level that the plants are...You can see in the pics that the fan is on a shelf above the plants. This is all in a closet. Im new to this so any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated!!!

You are going to be throwing away alot of females. That is a waste of good seeds if all you are looking for is 3 plants. Next time start double the amount that you want. You should start 6 if you only want 3 females.

Cali is right those things are starving for light...Don't take this the wrong way, but I think your misunderstanding the wattage on your lights. Those CFL's, are you sure they aren't equivelent to 60 watts and only use 13? And the 75 watter, I believe that is one of those "grow lights" from wal-mart and it says 75 watts but only uses 13 also. If I'm right you need more lights for sure because all 4 of those lights put out 800 lumens a piece which means you only have 3200. Most people say that you want at least 3000 per square foot. If this is the case and you want to continue with cfl's you'll need higher wattage ones, and you'll also want to lower the ones you have now in the meantime...

thanks for the info, you are right those lights are equivalent to 60watts but only use 13....I dont kno why I planted so many seeds but I was gonna start sometime last year and collected a bunch of seeds so I have like 75 or so seeds thats why I planted so many...Thanks for the advice tho, anything else?

Where do I go to get bigger CFL's? Home depot or lowes? I think walmart doesnt have anything much bigger than the ones im using

If you don't have much cash you can go to home depot and get the 100 watt equivalent which comes in the white package with green on it. These are the 2700K color temp, and are 2 bulbs for $6.88. Also, do you know how many watts your light fixtures can handle? If they can handle at least 60 watts you can get a Y connector from HD (by the electrical stuff, just ask someone), and put 2 bulbs per fixture, and since these bulbs produce 1600 lumens each you'll have 3200 per fixture which is a big improvement from where you're at now. Depending on what strain your growing you will probably want more than that in the future. If you don't have a budget you might want to go with a high pressure sodium, depending on your grow area size of course because these can produce a good amount of heat.

good start man, looks clean and well thought out. They are right though, higher watts, more bulbs. As long as you can control the temperature, you can never have too many lights. I found my cfls at lowes for a decent price. They have the 26W which is equivillant to 100W. I have 8 of them in my box now (similar size to yours check out my journal) I plan to add 2-4 more as they get larger and need more light
