just built my first DWC... is this normal???

k so this is my first DWC so i have no idea if this is normal.. it probly is but ima ask anyways... i have a 12" airstone hooked up to the pump and the majority of the bubbles r coming from the base of the stone rather then evenly through out the 12'' strip... will this get worked in or is this how it goes or is there sumthing wrong??? thnx guys!

Some stones are better than other when it comes to bubble flow. Try brushing te stones with a stiff brush . Is the air pump strong enough for a 12" stone? Good luck

'' for reals, some pumps arnt strong enuff??? its a dual line pump for 100-200 liters(25-50gals) in an 18gal tub with two 12inch stones... the guy at the hydro store said ide be good to go but i didnt know this info b4 hand... will i be ok??? any ideas??? theres def alota bubles being made but it doesnt really break the surface that good... like i dont think it would make a good bubble cloner for theres not alot of splashing... but i am new to this set up so i dont know whats good...

Most airstone require presoaking before setting it up on the air pump. Buy another one for a few bucks and soak it for a couple hours before hand. Use a splitter so your old one isnt wasted, just have it for comparison.

How much bubble action you need depends on what you want the bubbles to do. Read the link below. I use a 600 gallon per hour pump with 3 12 inch airstones in 6 gallons of water. But that's because I want the bubbles to feed the netpots with water not just oxygenate the water.

the bigger the stones and how many - and the length of hose - the bigger the pump you need - that also means more noise -alot more noise so you also need to get an air valve to bleed off some of the back pressure - i've used some pretty stout airpumps in my aquarium and i can still hear that humming today -lol

i have a 2 inch stone disk attached to a pump rated for 20 gallons in a 14 gallon rubbermaid tub with about 2.5 feet of air-line and it's noticeable when you walk in the room -but - acceptable to me . i've read that wrapping them in a towel will almost silence them - but - dont ever do that it will either overheat and die or it will burn your house down .
