Day 21

Unlike other days when I've said, I'll only have a few words and blab on, not today. Today I'm keeping it short and sweet, but I'm asking for some H-E-L-P !!

I'm noticing some of my older leaves are definitely showing signs, potentially some form of nutrient deficiency, some look like they used to be Heat Burnt, new growth although a nice green-ish, i'm noticing still a bit of leaf curl, etc. Could still be getting used too the transplant or so I hope.

Anyway even if you don't have an idear what's wrong, a little reassurance wouldn't hurt either !!

Have a great one,
-FT

PS: Here are 2 GREAT off-site links for leaf deficiency charts/solutions ... After looking at them and remembering my purpling stem I'm leaning towards either P or K more K though.

Day 22

Good Morning RIU ! I see you all viewing ~600+ but only 41 posts (mostly mine, lol) So welcome to the read, feel free to say What's up !!

So this morning, I'm thinking that my plants finally starting to chill out after the transplant (been since friday) and things are beginning to settle. I noticed some new vertical growth finally and then my other surprise. Despite some yellowing and other minro lower leaf issues I'm starting to get a TON of undergrowth. I tried my best to get some pics of this new growth, this morning I also decided it's feeding time again. After reading thru the majority of my old grow i had completely forgotten that the nutes I'm using are known to be a bit weak, so I went ahead and tried out a 2x after my last feeding to see if that helps/hurts, next watering is just plain water either way. For today's minor experiment I had been collecting some rain water in a bucket that I filtered thru some cheesecloth just in case there was crap floating in the water and used that directly today so we shall see !

That's about all, as per usual all comments, questions, or shout outs welcome

Day 23

Well we're getting closer to my "maybe" 12/12 switch. I'm just so impatient for the vertical growth I know should be happening. Todays the 5th day since I switched from crappy "soil mix" to the Promix HP and so I would like to think that my plants coming nicely outta the shock however it doesn't look like it just yet... To my surprise this morning, I do have a bit of vertical growth not a lot but making some progress, despite a nice sized watering with nutes yesterday when I looked this morning, my plants really droopy almost like it never got water. So with that in mind, I'm going to assume that maaaaaybe I've slightly overwatered it ? The yellowing on a few of the bottom leaves is definitely getting worse however it's not on any of the new growth. Speaking of the newer growth, this seems pretty uncharacteristic of a typical plant to me, but I'm getting loads of bush to this gal, at each of the lower nodes I'm getting 2 - 4 sets of small leaves coming outta no where. I tried to get some pics of the new undergrowth. I also added an extra 26W 6500k to the mix, so now I have a total of 5 x 26W, 1 x 42, & 1 x 13W so that's 185W (actual watts) for my 1 plant. Should be plenty !!

As always, Please if you feel you can help or add ANYTHING, I would most graciously appreciate it !!

Take Care,
-FT

After looking at my pics for today, I'm really seeing some colours I Don't like...if no1 can pipe up for some help I'll try my luck getting slammed in the "plant help" forum.

looks really cool i am starting my first grow with cfls, would love to be able to build a setup similar to yours. how many cfls or watts would you suggest for 12 plants?

Hey there, thanks for stopping in !! Although I'm a huge fan of CFL's for small or inexpensive grows, there is no way I could honestly say that CFL's would be "right" for a 12 plant setup. 12 plants is a lot of growing and even in a Scrog setup would take up a lot more space than I believe a reasonable # of bulbs would be effective to cover. Maybe I'm reading it wrong and you forgot the 1 - 2 haha, who knows.. but ya 12 with cfls...very tall order, might as well get a higher powered HPS as the watts for 12 plant cfl would add up to the same or more.

Hope that helps !

Day 24

I've gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed in myself thus far, I feel like such a total noob again. I was hoping to have this plant with a lot more vertical growth before even considering switching to 12/12. This is the "fun" and anticipation of normal everyday seeds... not auto, not feminized, just plain ol Marijuana Seeds !! So in saying that, I believe it's time to enact my plan.

I'm going to triple check the lighting situation over the next two days, in terms of making 100% sure that my 12hrs dark, stays pitch black. Then I'm thinking either Saturday or Sunday will be THE day. Then we wait the typical ~7 - 14 days for the sexing to show. So I've gotta get my 2700K bulbs out, I'm planning to leave my 42W 6500k in there and then change all my 26W's to 2700k and I figure that should be enough of a mix spectrum.

So that's how it sits folks, this journal won't be 70+ pages like my last one... unless I just keep one continual thread, time will tell, readers could speak up, if you want me to continue with my daily update/pics let me know !! otherwise I can always hold up :D

In my 3 pics, you'll see the yellowing has kinda stopped spreading, I think the big feed helped, but I do believe it's still showing some cupping/drooping that's likely from over watering I think. The 1st pic doesn't really show much I just thought it was neat to have the 7 fingered leaf !!

Have a great day ppl !!

Looks a little "Clawy" to me, hopefully not too much N. If watering is the issue it should perk up if you lay off the water. I mesure every watering i do to make sure i dont give em too much. I pour from the can into a 16oz solo, then water from the solo. It also spreads the preasure of the water on the soil over a lager area, and doesnt dig into the pot.

Other then that i think she is doing great. nice and green, tight node spacing, big leafs.

Day 25

I don't know why I bother "planning" things out, these things just have a tendency to work themselves out or basically do whatever the hell they want too ! I awoke this morning, and went in to check on my little plant and I have to say, it's now a week since transplant and 3 days since my "over water" and I think maybe, just maybe my plants coming back !! There has with no doubt been some new vertical growth in the last 2 days, more than the 4 or 5 days previous, the undergrowth I've been taking pics of has started to really take off and is growing "out" to get some more light. Some wonderful positives to wake up too, now.... the yellowing leaves down at the bottom....of the 3 or 4 that look really affected only 2 seem to be getting worse, where as the other one/two are not really changing. Generally from my reading/researching I've noticed that typically results are shown more in new growth than old. So with that said and my *fingers crossed* ALL new growth is a very nice green with no real blemishes of any sort other than a bit of clawing still. I'm going to give it another few days before I water again with just plain water, then maybe one or two more Veg Feeds now that things are getting better.

Thanks for stopping in :)

It can really drive you nuts cant it? Ive read that leaves that look like that mean nitrogen overdose, over watering, leaves laying on soil, fert getting on leaves or CA def. It can be hard to pin down but a lot of folks seem to have luck just leaving them alone lol. Keep obsessing, keep mesuring and you'll get buds.

hahaha DB,

I know man, I was reading your thread and the waiting is BRUTAL, if nothing else growing this plant is a wonderful teacher of patience. I've read just about the same and ya N/Over watering are the likely culprits + the transplant = stressed out little plant. Although I never considered potentially ferts on the leaves... So ya, leaving it alone has been the best thing for it thus far, I was debating a moisture meter to just simply have another tool to use whilst gaining experience.

Day 26

Good Morning !

My little plant seems to be bouncing back nicely, but still not 100% where it/she should be. I've definitely got some sorta nutrient issue on about 4 -5 of my earliest leaves. I thought it had just stopped, wasn't' getting better nor worse but after looking this morning, it may actually be getting a bit worse today's the day I'll post up in the plant help section so that ppl can tear my "noob mistake" apart lol. Other than that, the new growth is the right colour green, and healthy looking except for a minor bit of clawing still only at the very tips of the leaves otherwise they're all standing at attention (for the most part). The "soil" is still a tiny bit damp, so I'm a bit afraid to water today.. think I'll wait another day just to be super sure and it'll be a water only this time, roughly 1/2 the last one in terms of volume (Ya DB, despite over water I do measure lol I just leave it in my paper journal I keep, not online). The other piece of good news I have is that I have to move the lights up today, that can only be a good thing !!

I have extra pics today for the "bad" leaves, I'll post all of them here but then some in my other thread as well.

Have a great day !!

yea i was thinking 12 im kind of new to it all and this forum so i am still learning. i will probably go with 3 to get a handle on it all and then maybe work up to more. i was just wanting to make sure i produce enough between harvests. i appreciate your input any and all info is appreciated.

looking good! i can usually tell if youre having a nute burn issue, or a nute deficiency issue, but this one has me stumped.

what i would do next time you water is soak the medium with this mix: 16 oz water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, half a squeezed lemon. baking soda buffers ph to 7, while lemon buffers the ph down to about 6, giving you that sweet 6.5 ph. lemon also is a chelator of minerals, just like humates/humic acid. that should fix your medium right up.

i want to see you get as close to 185 grams as possible. if i were you i would lst and lollipop (when the time comes)

i lst just before the stretch (1 week into 12/12 schedule, or right when you see first pistil) and i lollipop after the stretch is over (3 weeks from 12/12 or 2 weeks from first pistil)

i count everything from first pistil.

with 185 watts you could veg for another week. make sure the plant is as healthy as can be just before and during the stretch!

@jq7978 - Happy to help anytime really. 12 for a first grow would be rather epic, BUT I'd go with less and use grow 1 (probably 2 & 3) as learning experiences to get your environment, etc locked down so that when you are prepared for a big crop you won't run into too many surprises ! Best of luck and if you run into any issues by all means ask away in this thread. If you start your own journal, let me know and I'll happily sub and follow along !!

@b.real - Welcome to the thread, thanks for stopping in (always happy to have new "faces" here). Appreciate the comments/suggestions, I've always been interested in LST, FIM'n, ScROG even but since I"m not totally sure what I'm going to end up with here (male/female) and being only 1 plant. I'm going to be using this grow primarily to lock down my procedures and make more mistakes so I can learn. Once I switch this plant to 12/12 I'll start up on germ'n my final Hindu Kush seed as well as some others I've got here. During that grow I'll be learning and experimenting on 1 or 2 of them with LST. If you check out my last grow I attempted to do a tiny bit of lollipop'n but truthfully my plant wasn't really tall enough for it to work properly, it was essentially me harvesting the lower buds earlier and then leaving my cola go a week or so. Either way, thanks for popping in ! Light a J and stay a while :)

Day 27 update coming soon...

Day 27

So I can tell this morning, that my problem seems to be getting better but not totally, I've still got some claws up top, which sorta bothers me. I've also noticed the TINIEST off colour on a few of the tips, but I mean like super tiny that only a crazy obsessive farmer would look at. We shall see though, as I think I've finally left my medium long enough to dry a bit and so I shall be doing a smaller watering today and then potentially another small one with super light nutes in the coming days. I had some nice vertical growth over night, in and around 1/4 - 1/2 inch and I know I mention this daily but holy balls is this plant getting bushy. Lots of undergrowth, the leaves are starting to grow out and from each branched inter-node are at least 2 usually 4 new leaves. So something is going right ;)

As always, comments, suggestions, slams welcome !! Have a great day ppl

And we have lift off !! Would appear that things are working themselves out I've gotten ~1 inch of new vertical growth in the past 36hrs but more than that my fan leaves are starting to move out more and from the inter-nodes on those branches I'm getting loads of growth. Tells me 2 things, my lights are at the correct height now AND I'm clearly getting some sold light penetration for the undergrowth to be taking off. Still a bit of clawing up top, but everything seems pretty on track now. Did a very small watering yesterday, and I intend to let it dry a day or two then do one more watering with a low dose of nutes and then it's 12/12 time.

I was looking over my cabinet and doing some math, "pot" height is about ~4 inches, lights all said and done hanging take up ~7.5 inches and that leaves me roughly 24" inch total for plant height...my plants in and around the 7 inch mark now...so if i take a super conservative estimate of the plant growing 1.5X vertically (typically closer to 2x) that'd put me at about 18-19" total size...pretty sure I totally screwed up my initial math when building as I was really hoping for a taller plant lol but hey beggars can't be choosers so bottom line, I've gotta get to 12/12 before I get to 10 inches or else things could get a bit hairy, without some LST or something which I don't plan to do this grow.

So that's where everything sits, expect 12/12 around day 32 ish...

Have a great day folks,
