Jarring before dry?

So I just harvested and my drying conditions aren't optimal (about 85*), can I jar the buds after just a couple days hanging and burp them frequently in order to slow down the dry time? My last harvest dried in 3 days hanging while I was away for the weekend and the taste and smell were affected.

Nope. You will get bud mold. Let them dry thoroughly.
You will be amazed at how much moisture returns to the bud when you put them in the jar.
Get your room temps down if you wanna dry in that room.

But if you insist of jarring your buds early, and burping them frequently, you can definite grow some bud mold :)

Yep, I did this; Jarred them early. Got mold on one of my buds; I emptied all my jars out and put them under some moving air. I plan to do this for 24 hours before jarring them again.

It sounds like you live in a similar climate to me. The humidity at night is always above 80% and it's not uncommon for it to be in the 90's. The temps drop to the low 80's at night and rise to the low 90's during the day. Drying takes forever, usually about a week and I HAVE to have air moving in the room. It usually takes a dehumidifier as well.

I tried something new and jarred them up thinking it would just be an extended curing process, but it didn't work out that way. Maybe if you opened the jars everyday for a couple of hours with a fan blowing over them... I'd hate for you to lose your harvest. One thing I have had success with in the past is to put the buds in the freezer; spread out. It will take a while, but through the process of sublimation, the buds will eventually dry.

It also seems to have messed up the aroma a little. There is an alcoholish smell in the jars and once they aired out, there was no smell at all. None of that nice green smell I'd become accustomed to.

I would have to see the buds to give a definite answer. The short answer is no. U have to wait until its dry. But depending on the density of YOUR buds it might be fesable. A hygrometer in your case is a must have. If you put the buds in the jar and the reading goes very quickly up to say...80 than dump them into a paper bag over night and try again the next day. Keep doing this until u get a stable reading of about 70 then start your cure according to the usual method.

No, don't jar them yet with any sort of lid. Is it a humid 85 degrees? I'd still hang them (for as long as it takes), and maybe use a fan if I had one laying around, then jar them. You could water cure if you want to go a different route that doesn't care about humidity or temperature :peace:
