Jackberry x K.O. Kush

Hey guys. So after a few years out of the game i am back. I started 2 grows previously and had issues and had to abort both grows. Now i am starting back up again. Earlier today i hit my local hydro store and walked out with $1400 in supplies. There is only a hand full of things i still need; timer, bigger pots, fans (a pc fan for my mother/clone room and oscillating fans for both rooms), and a thermometer. I will be picking them up tomorrow.

OK so i bought myself a nice 2.3'x4.3'x7' tent. The nice thing about this tent is that it is sectioned off into 2. I have about 3' of height in the lower portion and 4' above. I am going to be growing under a 600 what HPS for flowering and 2 t5s in my veg room.

I have a 8 inch hood that is cooled. I am going to have my 6' fan connected to 1 side of the hood and ducting connected to my carbon filter on the other side of the hood.

So far i have my lower portion sectioned off and my 2 T5s in place. I did notice there are tiny "Pin" holes in it. These allow lights out, i don't think they allow light in but i will be checking that. I am going to call my hydro store about it when they open tomorrow. I'm thinking i may just use reflective tape on the inside where the holes are as the store is an hour drive away.

Due to the above noted problem i have none of my flowering room set up.

I am using a pre-mixed soil-less medium to grow in. I was going to go hydro but after speaking to the guy at the store i decided to wait for the hydro. I wish i could tell you guys the name of the medium i am using but i was already carrying numerous boxed into my apartment so i decided to fill a Rubbermaid tote with the medium and throw out the bag.

For nutes i have a 20-20-20 compound for vegging and a 10-30-20 compound for flowering. I also got a bottle of super-thrive and a rooting compound. The nutes i have do not have a name as they are small containers that just have the name of the hydro store on them with mixing instructions.

I also purchased a air pump and air stone as i am going to run that through my water before i give it to my plants.

That's all for the set up i believe i will probably think of something else later.

Now for the important part SEEDS.

When i was growing before i purchased some seeds and received some freebies. I just stared germinating 2 of those freebies. They are Jackberry x K.o. Kush.

i bought two eye hooks and hung them from my ceiling .50 /each. you seemed to have spent alot of money.

Yea im in an apartment cant really go screwing things into the walls or ceiling. The tent was only about $400. The rest was the bulb, ballast, hood, exhaust fan, carbon filter, ducting, 2 t5s, etc

600 watt bulb ballast and air cooled hood on amazon....$180... 6 inch fan on amazon... $85 w/ speed control or $150 w/ SC and Carbon filter.... 25' 6" ducting on amazon $18...4X4X7.5 tent on amazon $129..... That grow store ripped you off something fierce unless you bought $800 worth of T5s...

locally (in Alaska) there are shops that buy from amazon and jack up the price 50% then resell... its worth it to research what you buy. Evidently, really worth it

at this point youve got your stuff ya gotta run with it ive grown jackberry but never the ko kush it should work out well for you i crossed jackberry with superlemonhaze i still have some seeds floating around

i guess i should have gone that route

I buy my stuff from HTG Supply, use them everytime, free shipping and fast. I guess when starting out it does cost a ton...9 years ago and i kinda forgot.

UPDATE

Ok so the 2 seeds never germinated. I threw in a bag seed Friday i believe it was. That seed germinated and i put it into these Styrofoam like cubes i got at the grow store. I have no idea what they are called as they were just sitting in a cardboard box with a price under neither. They come as a big block and you brake the individual cubes off. The big block came with over 100 so i figured i would throw in the 2 Jackberry x KO Kush seeds and hope for the best. They haven't sprouted yet but i am going to turn my T5s on tonight in case they sprout during the night.

Bummer about your seeds not germing, if you've had them for two years where have you kept them? If they are not kept properly they might no longer be viable.

Can you post a picture of the tent, I'm curious about the split design, what brand was it?

The cubes you described are sold here as something like "sure grow" cubes, handy in hydro systems as they don't cause PH swings like rockwool can.

I kept the seeds in a little baggie with seeds in it. They were kept in a drawer that has been opened maybe 5 times since i placed the seeds in it. There was a blanket on top in case someone looked into it.

The split design is fairly simple although around the corners there are small light leaks i need to address. Basically there are shelves that go across and pieces of the material the tent is made out of that hang down (sort of like how the cover the zippers) they are about 6 inches and run corner to corner on all 4 sides. You then take those pieces and pick them up over the shelf and strap them to it. this covers all the sides from leaking light up. Next there is an insert that goes on top will walls that strap to the bars on the sides. Its a simple design but hard to explain. The light only leaks from where the bars are. I will try to get some pictures of it up later.

I tried to google search it and found a few with the same name but they do not look like mine.

UPDATE:

So after awhile of waiting with no sprouts i decided to open the "Styrofoam" type things and took the seeds out of them. The only seed that germinated had a tap root that was maybe 1/4 of a centimeter when i planted it. When i extracted it the tap root was maybe 1/2 a centimeter and was curled directly upwards. In the process of trying to replant the seed in dirt the tap root snapped right off. I then planted it anyway and waited. No sprouts. So Friday i took my last 2 Jackberry X KO Kush seeds and stuck them in a paper towel. I wasn't expecting them to germinate because they were the lightest seeds out of the pack and had no tiger striping. I checked on them last night (Sunday) and their tap roots were almost 2 centimeters (1 was slightly twisted.) I planted these 2 seeds directly into my soil-less mix. 1 seed went into a hole that was barley below the surface and then covered up and the second the roots were put into the hole but the seed was above the dirt so i kinda made a little mound just to cover it.

I have never had good luck starting seeds, so I guess this time shouldn't be any different. I am hoping that by Wednesday i have at least 1 seedling.
