Hello guys, I have been using my 500w LED blackstar and 240w LED blackstar for some time now. I have been very happy with them during the entire growth cycle, but when it came to harvesting, I was not incredibly happy with the results. Although the next batch of plants were much more suitable, I was in heavy conflicts with my landlord about the sound my room made. Due to this, I moved into a new apartment and upgraded my room a bit.

I added a flowering room to my setup, and am using my DR120 twin tent for veg. The twin tent has 2 layers, one 2 feet tall, one 5 feet tall. Both 4 feet by 4 feet. I am using the 4 x 4 x 5' tent for my veg room, and have one 500w blackstar and one 240w blackstar. However, I will be looking to change the 500w to a 240, it really is overkill. I use the 4 x 4 x 2' tent for all my drying needs. My veg room has some several clip fans to keep air moving nice, but nothing fancy. I keep a very clean environment and they have been very happy in flowering, so lets see how they do in veg.

Also in my veg tent I have the following plants
9 Jack Herrer Clones
7 LSD clones
2 Black Domina Clones
Got several The Void clones coming (4-6)

My flowering room has the following: (8ft x 7ft)
1 1000w Hortilux Super HPS bulb
1 1000w Phantom Ballast, dimmable (i cannot suggest this ballast enough to others)
1 Raptor hood
Bluelab Guardian Monitor
XGC-E1 Xtreme Greenhouse Controller
Several oscillating fans
I will be adding several new features in the several weeks coming, including a full waterfarm system with a reservoir.

In my flowering room I have currently the following strains:
Black Girl (7 weeks in)
5 Jack the Rippers (7 weeks in)
One Jack Herrer in waterfarm (almost one week in)
One LSD (almost one week in)

All in all, this room took me 4-5 hours to set up. Most of it was mopping and bleaching and cleaning. Security wise, the room is perfect. I am growing licensed under the State of Rhode Islands' health department. Please contact me if you want to talk to me about the legality of my plants. Also, if there are any patients in the RI area, contact me as well, as I would love to talk. Anyways, stay tuned guys, if you have any questions, fire away.

Sorry about the blurry pictures. I literally just moved into my house within the past day, and I don't know where the camera is. Took them with my phone. This is not the way i wanted to start this journal but, you make do with what you have. Ill post more clear pictures in a day or two as soon as I move more things around, set up a water catching system for my runoff, and find my camera!!

:( what do u mean issues with yield how much were u expecting to pull of of 300 watts draw of led? Just curious. Because running that 1k your going to see a steep drop in gpw produced and if your only producing for personal use that led setup you got is more than enough to keep even the heaviest of smokers up in smoke. Off a blue dream in a 3 gallon lot under 170 watts of led Im lookin at over an ounce per gallon of medium used. I'm also not even dialed in yet with that plant and if I ran it hydro in my waterfarm with a scrog I would yield more.

^^ that's y the curiosity. If your trying to pull a pound plus yea I would say you would have a hard time doing that with those LEDs. They are probably capable if used together in flower of close to 3/4 pound.

I'll still be following along, but smartest thing would be for you to run vert bare bulb on that 1k with a 10k sunpulse bulb and run that 500 panel in conjunction for maximum par. You would get absolutely bitchin results. The hps would add the yield you have been wanting albeit at a much higher cost but if your willing to spend that kind of money on power do it big bro and run that 500 panel with it that will really do some gnarley shit. I'm picking up a dim able 600 ballast for Xmas and going to run that sun pulse bulb in a few runs and run my kessil and blackstar 240 in there as well. Try it you may be surprised at the results you get.

I'm still following along. ;) too bad about the land lord at the other spot man

Oh I suggest vert bare bulb because believe it or not it will run cooler and also you will get more lumens from ur bulb glass cuts back uv light as well as lumens and uv is what helps trichomes develop. Aim fans blowing up at your bulb on low to slowly push the heat up and away. If u hurricane it around it will hear up your whole room instead of slowly moving up and being trapped as its sucked out by your exhaust. I've been seeing lots of people tossing their hoods for bare bulb. Cheaper more efficient and less heat with higher yield I mean u can't really argue with that. My partner does though lol its all good though it's his hood he can ruin resale and sell it for less later when he realizes I'm right haha.

Looks good in there man hope this one goes smoother for ya ;)

Nice dude! I've always wanted to try one of these hoods. Its what I should have purchased instead of the LED's I'm using for my 4 x 4. You're going to crank the dank. Its a large area for even one 1000w bulb though, you going to rotate your crops?

Tuned in bro good luck.

Yea man but the raptor takes care of that. I have 12ft ceilings and I will be doing some monster plants. I might even try a scrog haha. So many limitations just opened up to me I don't know what's going on. I got many clones going, and I'm ordering 8 waterfarms soon, so I will be running just waterfarms for a while :)

I like LEDs, don't get me wrong, but they could never cover the area I am covering now without costing me a fortune. Yes they make their money back in the future, but most of us can afford more expensive things when it's stretched out a period. Stay tuned and all of our dreams will come true.

At this point HID produces the best results you're going to get, no doubt! With the exception of plasma which I've seen some killer grows with. I regret ever even fucking with LED's but I've made the investment so.....

Ideally that bulb/ballast/reflector combo would be best for a 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 space and the inverse square law applies as with any HID unit. The raptor helps spread the footprint and allows you to run the bulb tighter on the plants. Its not really designed to cover a larger area by raising it to the roof. The further away the light the intensity decreases exponentially for every inch after a foot or two. You would be compromising light penetration to a very large degree if you run that bulb further than 20-30" from the canopy. In that case a Scrog or SoG might be best if you're trying to maximize light for a space larger than the light works best with. I'm curious to see what kind of footprint it has at the distances you plan to run it.

Just my two cents but if you are going to run the light high, I would grow consider wide rather than tall, a scrog would probably work best. Like I said the penetration will suffer, something to think about, whether its worth the extra plants and space or whether to concentrate on the core footprint of the lighting.

Either way, I love these hoods and I'm looking forward to chillin.

Yoo, waterfarms create some tall girls. Of course if I ever raised the light, I would raise all my shorter plants that are not in waterfarms. But I want to do some monster plants, but only several. My future plan is to run only 4 plants per run. I got plenty of time to think about it, but I'd love all of your opinions along the road.

Also, I decided to keep 9 waterfarms in the flowering room at all times, and I plan on to veg all my plants in dwc units and transfer them to waterfarms once I harvest and clean all the buckets. What do you think?

DWC to waterfarm? They are in rockwool cubes in netting cups, take the hydroton out, wash and sanitize, put some on bottom of bucket, put the roots on top of hydroton, fill in the empty space with hydroton. Is that what you mean?

OK I think I get it. So u put the whole netting cup in the hydroton or do u cut it away or something. Forgive my ignorence in a noob just trying to get my head around this because in going to be using a waterfarm 4 pack and probably grow from clones so this could come in handy

Yep the roots can take whatever shape you put them in, so if with one hand you are holding the clone, the other hand you should be filling the empty space with clay pellets. I leave the entire netting cup with the plant and throw it out on harvest day. I have a million of those things.

Day 3 of my new room. This morning before lights off, most of the plants looked wilted and stressed from the move, so I applied some Magic Green from house and garden. When the lights turned on, every leaf was a razor blade. Amazing product, I will continue to use it twice a week as suggested.

Everyone seems to be getting much thicker. Jack herrer in waterfarm is stretching hardcore, even though I topped each main branch. I transplanted the LSD into a 5-gal smart pot, and the black domina clone into a 3-gal smart pot. I have finished all of my pro-mix and do not plan on buying any more from now. Hydro is the way for me. It has always been my dream to only run hydroponics, and never again in soil or promix. I decided to build my own buckets. I will order them tomorrow if I have the time, and should start planting clones in buckets in two weeks. Speaking of clones, I built a SPANKING new cloner, with an oversized water pump and a bunch of 360-degree misters. I cant even take out a neosprene without getting soaked in the eye. Here they are.

This room has always been a dream of mine, and I cannot believe I finally have a fully secure, full producing room in my own home. I hope everybody gets their own dream room. It is the best feeling. It makes me want to take classes in TV production and create a show called Pimp My Grow. Go in, take ten thousand dollars and transform somebodys room. Each episode would be a different type of hydro setup. Get on it somebody.

Ahh, I just realized the pictures came out very bright. Never taken pics this close a thousand watt with my camera before. Ill take some better ones when I pull the plants outside later on. Peace.

I ordered a co2 injection system to plug into my environmental controller. Also, after the winter cold ends, I will be putting up a freestanding AC unit in the room. With the addition of these two items, as well as my carbon filter, my room will finally be turned into a controlled environment agriculture (CEA). This is when no air enters or exits the room. The only air exiting the room will be the hot exaust from the freestanding ac, but that has an intake and extake so it technically isn't in the room. From the many detailed articles I've read on cea's, 15-25% increase in production is easily noticeable if you run a clean cea. I could never in my dreams see myself owning a cea room, but now I can't wait for it.

Also ordered a 10 bucket dwc system in bubbleponic 5gal buckets. Let the fun begin.

Nice dude, did you pick an AC unit yet? I looked at these over the summer, def getting one for myself next summer for the warm season.

Yep i have a couple ac units, but all window units. A free-standing unit is much different than a window. A window unit will not create a CEA but instead an MEA (modified environment agriculture). Free-standing units use the outside air to cool themselves down and release it back after. They are a must if you want to run a clean air setup.

Sorry, what I meant was did you choose your free standing unit? I was eyeballing one that is both AC and heater. Basically free standing portable climate control BOOM. Found this from just a quick search.
